My parrotlet hates my boyfriend. Before we started dating, my bird actually liked him more than most people. He fed her snacks and she would fly to him. He had parakeets growing up, so he is good at handling birds. If I went away for the weekend, he used to take care of her.
Now, she has completely changed her tune. She really truly hates him with every bone in her little feathered body. If he walks by her cage, she will lunge at him. She becomes even more aggressive when he walks by me and she is on my shoulder. If he touches me while she is out or gets too close, she goes crazy. If any part of his body is within reaching or running distance, she bites him hard and refuses to let go. If she can't get to him, she will bite me.
Obviously there is some sort of jealousy issue going on. He's done nothing to harm her or scare her except, in her view, try to take her mate. However, this state of affairs is less than ideal. I can't really take her out if my boyfriend is anywhere around. This is cutting into her play time. I used to have her out whenever possible, but its much more difficult with her acting so aggressively toward him. I've been putting her in her cage after her fits, but it doesn't seem to be effective. I've never heard of a parrotlet acting like this. Is there anything I can do to curtail this behavoir?
