Video on Feather plucking, FDB

Hi all. My parrotlet is plucking and I happened to find a great video on YOU Tube from a avian veterinarian on how he gets 90 % of his patients who pluck to completely stop. Now I am only 3/4 of the way through but from what I have learned is stuff I would not have thought of and all the reasons why is explained.
He says if you have a plucker , FDB ( Feather Destructive disorder)unless you get this kind of help the bird will always pluck because it is his way to deal with stress kind of like a person who cuts themseves when they get stressed. He may stop for awhile but he will always go back to it. So this issue gets worse unless you do something about it and behavioral remedies out there may help for a bit but the bird gets instant reward with FDB so he will go back to plucking. Very interesting so far.

Interesting video. Thanks for posting. This article explains more on what the vet was saying about parent-raised babies being less likely to pluck.

I like the article you posted Anya it basically says what the cause is for FDB but it doesn’t explain how to do for prevention. Dr.Jenkins also explains almost the very same thing in great detail. He has a 90% successful recovery in all kinds of parrots. He has before and after videos. He says in the video the drug that is given will make them sleepy for 1 hour , if they sleep longer they need to adjust the meds. He also said if you do nothing to treat the bird it becomes an addictive habit it gets worse annd worse eventually most people have to destroy their pets- which I don’t want to happen to Chums!
I was surprised and very happy to find out that he operates his veterinary clinic for only avians in SanDiego! I live in SanDiego county so I made an appointment to have Chumley see him in a couple of weeks. I will let you know what happens .
