Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum as a member, but I have read many articles on this forum as a guest before. I am having an odd situation with my two pets which are Parrotlets. My female pet is named Sky and I got her when she was 6 months old. I also obtained a male parrotlet names Blu. When Sky and Blu met each other it was amazing, they bonded very quickly to each other. On Tuesday this week (4/21) I caught Sky and Blu mating. On Wednesday I bought them a nest box and installed it in their cage. They mated once more on Wednesday. Since Tuesday, they have been in and out of their nest box (4 times about 15 minutes long each time). I can't tell if Sky has an egg bump, but I noticed they are eating a lot more as well as I notice a lot more poop in their cage (I cleaned it out Tuesday and it is extremely messy today. Sky has always shredded up the paper towels at the bottom of the grate of their cage. Does it seem that Sky is going to lay eggs?

Gosh, I'm not a breeder, but from the sound of it sure seems like their working towards a clutch...but who knows what will happen? For example, sometimes eggs are fertile, sometimes they're not, so that even when eggs are laid at times nothing comes of them. I wish you the best of luck! :)

Thanks so much! I am anxious but I am also just waiting patiently. I think she an egg bump but I am not so sure. I have never bred parrotlets. These are just my pets who happened to mate. I hope someone will give me advice soon, thanks again!

Only time will tell, but you just may have several chick'lets before long, if your pair is anything like mine, aside from looking almost identical and having almost the same names! My Skye has the extra letter and my boy "C" is actually Caeruleus (one syllable is easier than 4) - which is the Latin word for a blue that is like azure blue as in the sea or sky.

All the best and most of all, have fun, enjoy!

Hi there! OMG our birds do look identical!:smile::smile: I'm a little confused by your post. Did you mean I'll have parrotlet babies in no time? Thanks for the support!

Yes! I do mean parrotlet babies....I just have lots of names for them: Chick'lets, Nuggets, whatever comes into my mind.

I can't tell from your pictures if egg-laying is imminent, but if they are mating and going in and out of the box, I wouldn't be surprised. Does it look like Sky is arranging a nest in the box? Has she tossed out some of the nesting material?

It's so exciting, isn't it? I hope you wanted some babies, as chances are that you will be getting some!

Thanks for getting back to me! I was just clarifying if that is what people called baby birds laugh out loud:) I am uploading more pictures. I think I see her egg bump, but I can't tell to be honest. As for as the nest box goes, they have gone in for the last couple of days for about 15 minutes at least 2 times in a day. They mated one time on Tuesday and another time on Wednesday, there has been no more mating that I have seen. I do want babies, and have gathered some supplies. I haven't gathered everything because I am unsure is she is about to lay eggs.:confused: I haven't witnessed the bigger poop signs either; however, there cage has gotten more messy than ever since their first mating. Also when my female (Sky) enters the nest-box she is squawking for like 2 minutes then she quiets down. Any thing I should know?:):):D

They look so cute and lovey! I can't really tell if she is swollen or not, so maybe it is still a few days away.

I noticed that the nest box is inside the cage. Is it easy enough for them to get in and out?. My nest boxes have a perch near the opening and I hang the box on the outside of the cage at one of the doors, facing into the cage, so that the birds don't see so much traffic and distraction. That way too, it doesn't take up so much room.

Once she starts laying and sitting, you'll have plenty of time to think about whether you will do any handfeeding or not, and get what you will need for that. The eggs usually hatch in 19-20 days and are laid 1 1/2 days apart.

I don't have a cage where I can put the nest box on the outside (I would have to break the cage to do that! :) ) Yes I do have a perch that they use to get into the box because it runs right along the opening. The nest box has a perch inside of it that they use to get in and out of the box. They do have plenty of room in their cage still even with the nest box in it.

Thanks for your help! :) I hope they lay eggs and that those eggs are fertile and I get babies etc. Only time will tell. They have been in the box a lot longer today and is the squawking abnormal? I haven't checked the box for today yet!:D

A new update-Sky's poop is really huge. Like I never believed people when they said that you'll know a difference when the female's poop is big, but I mean you can tell. Still no egg has been laid, but I am sure one is on it's way because her vent is bigger. Fingers Crossed!

Thank you! It's definitely an anxious moment because I didn't expect them to mate so soon and I'm hoping they have babies, but if they don't I totally understand anyways! My male was feeding my female but there weren't any eggs laid yet so I'm sure they are practicing for when the real deal happens. Hope I see an egg today or tomorrow her vent is a little bit larger than yesterday.

How exciting! Keep us posted.
I just cleaned their food and water to give them fresh stuff like I always do on a daily basis! I maybe getting in over my head a little bit, but there is still no egg. Sky actually looks smaller today, but then again I am not 100% sure anymore. I haven't been home all day long, but I don't think they have even been in the nest box at all today. The poop looks bigger but not as big as yesterday's. I am giving up on the hopes an egg will be laid soon, should I still be looking forward or no? Thank you though and if anything else happens I will be posting it! :) :(

Tomorrow it'll be 1 week from their first mating. Wednesday it'll be their second mating (which they haven't mated since then). I thought eggs are laid about 2-3 days after the mating occurred? Am I wrong? Will she still lay eggs? She hasn't been eating a whole lot of her cuttlebone either, but she and Blu are eating their food a lot more. Blu has fed her only twice in my presence. Also he and Sky are arguing it looks as though he wants her to go into the nest box, but I am not sure if that is what he is doing? Any advice because I'll take anything right now.

Hey kahreem

Hi there. You commented on the post I had up about how long before eggs.
what I can say is mine have still not laid. There have been days where I have looked at her and thought shes huge then shes not the next. I have no explanation for that. All I can definitely be sure of is shes gotta pop in the next couple of days she really is big now. I will post a picture of her bump is a bit easier to see as shes green. I must say your hen is stunning though . I will get a pic posted and I think we should be clutch buddies as we can learn from each other. Hope I can help you soon. Oh one more thing. It may just be my pair but there seeme to be no break in mating my cock bird if she lets him will mate daily even now.

good luck.

Hi there! Thanks for replying! I still have no eggs laid either :(. I am kind of giving up hope I'll get eggs from them. Same here! One day Sky will look humongous and others she looks as if she laid an egg already explaining her smallness. I have posted a lot of pictures on here so if you can see her egg bump or need more pictures just let me know! Thanks for sharing pictures of your birds I appreciate it a lot! Cool clutch buddies, I hope we can learn a lot from each other/together:)! Mine have mated twice in front of me in one day but I mean I can't tell you everyday if they have as they can be making when I'm not home! Keep me posted and I'll do the same! Thanks again! :)

Omg good for you! She looks like she is close! To be honest, Sky looks nothing like that :( I honestly don't think they will have eggs. Blu is only 4 months and Sky is 1 year old. Think they are too young for it to happen? Thanks for the pictures I'll try to get some more shots of Sky but she won't let me touch her belly to see if anything is there :(. They poop on top of the nest box but not inside it so I don't know. Got any advice?
