Does anyone use shearling (lambskin) for a cuddle blanket in the cooler months? I suspect there are pros (natural, durable) and cons (encouraging hormonal behaviour, ingestion) to consider. I've tried fabric stores but the bolts are all "unknown fibres”. I have yet to find a supplier for a parrotlet sized piece of shearling. ( Minimum found so far is 9 square feet).

I imagine shearling would be safer than fleece, but as you know, birds will chew on anything. Ingestion is definitely something to be concerned about, especially if you have a chewer.

As a fellow Canadian, I can understand why you are considering shearling for your little fella. Lol. But no, I have never tried it. Ingestion is an issue with pretty much anything. I think the real stuff would be less likely to shed than faux versions, but I can’t say for sure. Trying to find a small piece will be your challenge.

I bit the bullet at IKEA. They have sheepskin that is described thusly:

"All leather and skins you find in the IKEA range are sourced as by-products from the food industry. This means the whole animal is used instead of parts being discarded.

Skins and hides must be treated in order to become beautiful interior products. In this process, we don't allow any chemicals or heavy metals that are harmful to people and the environment."

I cut a small piece and lashed it into the cage where I had previously had a cotton t-shirt.
Lots more to use for other purposes.

We'll see if we can answer the question, "Does it cuddle?"
