I recently adopted a young pair of parrotlets thinking they were male and female pacific parrotlets. But now I suspect that the female is actually the green rumped subspecies. Can a pacific and a green-rumped parrotlet breed? Is it a good idea?
Thank you!

To the best of my knowledge, green rumped parrotlets are not a subspecies but a different, related, species. I would avoid it.
What makes you think she is a grump? Post some pictures. Also, what does she weigh? There is a size difference between the two.

As I understand is Dana is correct, Pacifics and Grumps are different species and are not breed together, and Pacifics can be quite aggressive, so I would not be inclined to house one with a Grump. As she has said, a pic would be helpful.

No it is not good to breed them as it contaminates the blood lines and since we are unable to get natural pairs from outside the country it is important to keep clean blood lines. Also one is more agressive then the other.
