Hi there, my name is Tess and I’m new to the group. I am wondering if you could help me. I have had Aloe for 2 years now, with the breeder having told me she is a female. I have always suspected she is a male but due to her mostly blue colour I have found it hard to figure that out myself. Please see photos of her attached (she is very unwell at the moment, evident in some photos, she is on antibiotics and not looking her best - partially the reason I would like to find out more about her gender, as possible egg binding the cause of her illness. We are booked in to a specialist bird vet tomorrow as we live remotely and the local vet was unsure of her condition. Such a gut wrenching time for us all 😞)
Anyway, please let me know your thoughts.

She looks female to me. The colbalt colouring on the wings is usually quite dark and purply, even on pieds for male birds. Perhaps the vet will think differently.
Wishing Aloe a good recovery. Give her a kiss from us.

Hello Tess and Aloe. Welcome the the site. Hope you guys stick around. Sorry Aloe is not feeling well and hope things turn around well.

On a blue we usually need an underwing with wing spread pic to be sure but from looking I am going for a female.

I say it is a girl too. She is so pretty! I have a female. Girl birds rock! ;)
Wonderful! It would be strange to have to get used to her being a boy after the two years of me and my girl 😅

Thank you. Loving the community so far! Vet has done some treatment today that we will be able to continue with our local vet. The poor little love had a lot of fluid in her belly that was putting pressure on her organs, they believe this is due to a reproduction organ or kidney issue, and we have a treatment plan for both. She has a long road, but things are clearer now. We hope to stay in the Parrotlet group

Hello,

It is with great sadness that I advise of my Aloe’s passing.
My little warrior left us on 13 January.
she was so strong and brave, and I miss her dearly.
I have never known such a tiny creature to have such a big personality, one that just rocked our world.
Aloe was sassy, curious, smart, crazy, loving and somewhat of a dinosaur.
I will remain a member, if ok. I adore all things Parrotlets.
Thank you
Tess & (never to forget) Aloe.

Thank you Anya.
Unfortunately, my baby didn’t make the trip home from the specialist 😪 she passed during our drive home. She had been snuggled up on the passenger seat in my jumper when she made her way over to me, of which after I had realised was her coming to be with me to say goodbye.. and from there she laid on my chest in a sling I made with the jumper. That is where she passed, and though so devastating, I am so glad she came to me. My sweet girl. I am so sad for her.
I am sorry to sadden you with this, I hope it is not too much. I wish you and your little love all the health and happiness.

truly sorry to hear about Aloe. We here obviously understand a bit of what you are going through more than most the non bird owning world. When you feel like it we have a section called the Rainbow Bridge where owners are welcome to memorize their little ones that have moved to the next part of our adventures.
You are welcome to stay and discuss parrotlets. Aloe was your dear friend and you are welcome to share your experience, your knowledge, the lessons she taught you with others seeking their way through parrotlet ownership.
