Freeze dried dry chop only

I’ve been trying to get Paco to eat fresh fruits or veggies to no avail. I’ve been getting freeze dried chop and rehydrating it but he will only eat it dry. Is that sufficient enough? He gets a pellet and seed mix as well as several varities of chop and other food from here

None of us on the forum are experts in the science of freeze-dried vs. fresh nutrition. I know it is frustrating when a question goes unanswered, but often it means that the forum is not the right place for the question. If you are looking for suggestions to get a parrotlet to try new foods, I am sure many of us have tricks we have tried. But whether a particular diet is the right one for your parrotlet is something that should be answered by your avian vet, not an internet forum.
Wife does a bit of freeze-dried stuff over time. My older bird Jules like is a bit. My current one Rio can care less about it.
This issue has been discussed from time to time. The only issue that seems to be a problem is that some some of the fruit drying does cause a large increase in the sugar content so many people do not like it.
I am not sure there are many people in our most current group of active user that do this much.

Thinking about it. Jules really liked hot peppers. Because of that we would grow it in the garden and make a bunch of it for her during winter.

Hello.. I looked up the site for the freeze dried chop and was very impressed , so I ordered a small bag to try it out.
I also have Cairn Terriers (3) and I normally feed them a raw diet. But whenever I am on the go I take freeze dried. My dogs have gotten a lot of complements on their coats from judges and I am very picky as to what I give them.
My hubs also used to sell freeze dried raw dog food on the side and the dogs loved it. It is researched and actually really good for them. That being said Dogs eat a lot of protein with some fruits and veggies, sugar content was not an issue in the freeze dried food and that would certainly affect the dogs . Not sure with the Texas freeze dried chop- it is veggies and fruit so I do need to look at the sugar content I don't want Chums to turn into a diabetic. Can birds be diabetic?? In the wild they eat mostly vegatation and fruits. Hmmmm???
So I read the Texas Natural info. and I am impressed with the ingredients. I am going to feed it as is at first-dry- as a side dish. Texas Naturals also recommended to try it that way because a lot of birds do not like mushy veggies- I don't blame them! Chumley likes some veggies but I am hoping he will like the texture and get interested in other kinds of veggies... he is the "Mikey" of veggies".
That being said I give Chums a variety of seed, fresh chop and nuts his fav is bell pepper heats with all those delicious seeds and jalapeno hearts. It keeps him busy and his Vet is very happy with the diet I have him on.

Let us know if Chumley likes the Texas Naturals. I have thought about trying freeze dried on Pugsley for a while now. Even thought of getting a machine to make my own. Anyhoo, I hope Chumley likes it! Love the convenience! :)

Ill let you know Anya. . I saw in the comments someone had said the sugar content goes they had a family member was dehydrating her own fruits and veggies. So I got back on Texas Naturals and did the live chat with them. They said the sugar content does not change in freeze drying however it definitely does when dehydrating, two very diferent methods of taking the moisture out of the food. The fruits and veggies is what is was before the freeze dry , only difference is the moisture content and that is it. Ill check it out.🤞

My Paco eats the freeze-dried veggies only and seems to enjoy them. He turns up his nose when I try to rehydrate it. But they also sell freeze dried already spouted sprouts and a freezedried chop without fruit.

Tumi really likes fresh sprouts Avian FRESH Diet™ Parrot Food: China Prairie Products. He highly recommends them to all birdies. And is a very grumpy bird if they aren't ready yet.

Texas Natural is a good brand. As it was already mentioned above, China Prairie Products are excellent. They have very good freeze dried stuff, dried flowers and herbs, EasySprouter kits, etc.

Bird's Bistro sells good quality mixes to make a "porridge", but also avian teas - might be prepared as teas but also given as dry / foraging stuff.

Mike and Mia company (UK, ships worldwide) sell excellent stuff similar to China Prairie Products.

Christine's Chop Shop is good and has some unique products. Christine also donates heavily to birds rescue.

Finally, I would highly recommend
biobirdblends.com : it is outstanding.
Dr Jason Crean, who is behind this store, has very interesting YouTube videos, like this one:
