Eggshell DNA testing

I learned you can test a bird's DNA by sending in a dried eggshell sample. Pardon my ignorance, but how would you keep track of which baby came out of which egg as the babies grow older? Do you band them really, really early? Just so confused on how you would keep something like that straight...?

Bryan will become famous soon enoughBryan will become famous soon enough

There was a lady on youtube that marked the babies with a kids crayola non-toxic marker to identify them while they were young.. ( read the comment section)

Not sure this is the best way or even safe but it is just what the lady in the video does.

There is a very small window of time for placing a band on a baby bird and yes, it is very early.
