Willie's Becoming A Senior
I just can't believe how time flies! I remember coming on here and chatting about my Willie being young and asking all the newbie questions about owning a Parrotlet but now as of sometime in June Willie will be 8! Does this mean he is now a senior? How long do they usually live on average?

In captivity, parrotlets can live between 15 and 20 years, with 15 years being more normal for all the parrotlets that I have seen posted on the web. My bird also has a June hatch day. June is a popular month for that!

I understand what you mean. I got my girl as a rescue in 2013. In April that is 7 years we know she has been alive and our guess is she was about 3 then. So that is about 10 years. Seems like yesterday.

Thank you for that information. I'm very relieved that he could live up too 15 or so! I remember reading somewhere on the internet that 10 years might have been the age limit for them and I was getting sad over that. Perhaps I misread.

Treat the p'lett right and you should expect them to live almost 20 years. BODIE was the oldest in this forum before he passed away. He was 18 years and 2 months old. He was green. Green p'lett's seem to live the longest because they are the truest p'lett . The original p'lett was green and is the direct cousin of the Green Amazon parrot.
But, with tender care, I believe any color can live up to 20 years of age! That is a long, long, long time for such a small bird!
Thanks for posting!
David, Vicki, and Ricochet ( 8 months) and in Spirit, Bogie, 10 years, 2 weeks when he passed last September.
PEACE!

Willie is middle age. Maybe he will start going through midlife crisis. My Timmy lived to be 13.5
