Question Still mating?

Hi everyone,

This is my first experience with breeding so excuse my ignorance, my parrotlets are almost 2 years old and my hen currently has 5 eggs that she is sitting on, but my concern is that in the morning usually hen comes out of the nest for defecation and i have seen my pair are mating even if there are 4 eggs, is it normal i wanted to ask.

Thank you in advance.

Ps. I am giving them plenty of food their food is not only seed-based.

Hi there. Unfortunately we do not have a lot of breeders who post to the forum. Maybe someone knows if this is normal. Glad to hear that you are giving them plenty of food...

I'm not an expert on this but from personal experience, the mating will continue until the clutch is complete. Does she still have swelling in her vent area? If so, then she's not done laying.

Is she still sitting on eggs that are there? If she's not sitting on them then it might mean that they've given up on that clutch and want to start another one.

Thumbs up

Bluewing is correct. You stated that you give them plenty of food besides seeds. Good! But, make sure you give them egg fortified mix and other foods that are high in calcium and proteins.

Nesting food is what it is generally called.

I haven't heard about nesting food but I am giving them my mix that contains: Boiled egg, carrots, raw broccoli, raw zucchini, chili pepper, beetroot, nuts, walnuts, almonds

I will definitely search for it too, thank you very much
