I wanted to update real quick - so kibi has a fungal infection in his digestive tract! We are going to pick up another medicine for him. He is doing fine so far. I hope he will get back to his old self soon!

Thanks for the update on Kibi. Glad to hear that there is a diagnosis and that you have picked up a new medication for him.

Exactly the same thing happened to my little Sky. After many visits to the vet, she found out he had Gastrointestinal infection and his white blood cells were extremely high. Why? don't know. He was given antibiotics and other medication for about three weeks. He survived and he's very happy now. One thing I did to avoid future infections was to wash all his toys and bought glass bowls. I also put paper towels at the bottom of the cage and replace them every day. I don't think I have ever seen so much happy since then. I hope this helps.

Kibi is a lot better. He seems happy and not as wobbly on his feet.

We went to see the vet today and I decided to bring shrimpy, just to make sure she is okay. I also had them take one of her foot rings off. It was a rather big pink one, without any purpose and she looked so cute back at home when she realized she could tuck her foot in further when resting now!

They did an X-ray on kibi to check his lungs and found out that his liver is enlarged. I hope itís just because of the fungal infection and the medicine.

All in all I am very relieved but also I am not really planning on taking them back to this vet. He failed to take shrimpy out of her box and ended up chasing her through the room. When he got her, I thought I was going to cry. I felt horrible for doing this to her. Also they send us out of the room when they were about to take kibi out for the X-ray. I hated having to leave him after what I saw with shrimpy.

I will look for another avian vet. Sorry for the rant. At least kibi is getting better!

Thumbs up

I am so glad all is getting better. I think it is a good idea to switch vets. You must be comfortable with the vet you use or you will develop doubts!

Keep smiling!

You are fortunate to have more than one avian vet in your area to get a second opinion for nothing else.
Best to both birds and you.

Hey David, who is the parrotlet vet you took Bogie to? Joey's current vet is extremely rude. If anything was ever serious with Joey, I'd be willing to make the drive.

Sadly, things took a turn for the worse today. Suddenly today kibi started throwing up real bad. He did this until he was completely exhausted. I put him back in his cage and he is sleeping now, after we gave him his medication for the fungal infection. The vet is not in today so all we can do is wait... I am prepared for the worst by now. I just hope he can make it through...!
