Cleaning Day for Pip

I donít know about your little guys, but Pip can be a real pain when Iím trying to clean his cage. He thinks itís time to bite Mommy. As I take out the paper towels on the grate in the bottom he tries to bite my fingers. I donít know if heís playing or if he feels Iím invading his turf. He settled down after I took out his coconut shell and his large perch, but even as I was washing down the inside walls and cage bars, he was trying to catch my hands.
Iím thinking that maybe I should take him out, but he rushes back when I start to put my hands in his cage.
Sometimes He even chases my hands when Iím putting his snack dishes in. But he also gets very excited and starts saying ďkiss kissĒ as he rushes for the goodies.
Iíve learned to be careful, but itís challenging sometimes.
Any advice?

It is common for parrotlets to be cage aggressive (which is what you described). Normally if you can get them out of their cage first, they tend to be fine. Can you take him out prior to cleaning his cage?

I will probably do that. He has a couple of play yards, so maybe Iíll put some millet in one of the cups before I start and dump him in.
Most mornings, when I am just changing the bottom paper, he is still on my shoulder. By the time he hops onto the cage, Iím almost done.
He doesnít usually hurt me, but he can sure be annoying.

Thumbs up

You are messing with his property! It is his duty to ' protect " it. Wear gloves. Ricochet is protective, whereas Bogie couldn't give a diddly squat!

I have Ricochet step up and remove him from the cage and then put him on his play station.( which I put a pile of sunflower seeds on the bottom of the play station). If this does not keep him busy, I turn on You Tube " Koolaid, the parrotlet videos, talking on my Kindle. This keeps him occupied.

Most of the time, he stays away.
