~~~A Stork Will Be at David's and Vicki's Home Likely In April !~~~
Hello~~
You all know I have been wanting another bird , but my declining health has made me question things for the near future. When I take on a bird, I try to put everything into raising it. I dedicate my entire life to that special bird.
Well, Vicki and I decided to seriously look into getting another parrotlet. I know a breeder here in Orlando who sells top notch birds to people. She actually has a 3 year waiting list. She raises all kinds of exotic birds.
When I contacted her, she was in Italy on a family emergency. She just got back into the USA and I was able to have a nice 2 hour talk with her on Sunday. I found out that I had met her just before I got Bogie. She was at an Exotic bird show in Orlando. This was in 2008.
She was a good friend to Pamela, who sold me Bogie. We talked about Pamela and we were sad that she had passed away after she moved to Kansas. She told me that Pamela raised the purest parrotlets there were. When I mentioned to her about Bogie, she said, " I know all about Bogie from the stories you printed in the Bird Brain Express before it shut down."
Well, we became good friends Sunday. I told her I wanted a green or blue p'lett next Spring and she said she will provide me a pure bred bird. She will set up nesting boxes just for me. I also asked her if she would supply a blue for another forum member and she said she would. She said they would be well tamed and stepping up and if one of her birds turns out to be a mean one, she will replace it!
So, if her birds provide enough eggs this spring, Vicki and I will be paronts again.
I wanted my next p'lett to be named " Buster " but something happened over the Christmas holidays that changed my mind. When our small family got together on Christmas Day, we talked about the past. Greg, my son, said one of his fondestmemories he had was when I called him by his nick name. I called him Chi Chi. ( pronounced Chee Chee). It was a special name I had for him.
So, I decided, along with Vicki, that our bird will be named....
" CHI CHI ".....
What do you think of that name? Let me know!
Congratulations on a new parrotlet in potentially April with the name Chi Chi! What does that breeder mean by a "pure bred" bird?
It doesn't mean much, except, while I was trying to understand her English ( She is Italian and sometimes her English is hard to understand). I asked the same question you asked me and she said all her p'letts are from a long line of parrotlets that she has bred since the 1990's.
I think it was her way of saying that she has kept the genetic line of her birds supplied from her own birds. She is a lot like Bogie's breeder who didn't allow outside p'letts to infiltrate her genetic line. ( She knows the history of her birds).
Where she got her first birds, I do not know. She did say that p'letts were losing ground in sales across the USA because so many breeders are not breeders, they are brokers who claim they are breeders.
Happy New Year!
Dave
Congrats Dave & Vicki! I love "Chi Chi" both because it's personal and because it's unique! I was wondering if anyone ever asked for money back for "training?" I'll post some pictures of my new little girl Cookie soon, but I paid $150 extra to have the breeder train her to step up, kiss and ride on my shoulder and she does none of those things! I'm making great progress with her, but it will take lots of time, patience and love. Anyways, I want to ask for a refund - they sent me a video that actually works in my favor and shows an untrained bird. Thoughts? Also, on a separate topic, how long do I offer millet freely to a baby parrotlett? She has no interest in anything other than sunflower seeds and millet at the moment.
Reason: We do not openly mention breeders on the forum.
