drinking styles and new covered dish

Luna likes to get a drink by sliding down her cage bars and sipping upside down. I call it her Nuthatch move. However, she also likes to bring her food over and eat while perching on the side (the side, not the front!) of the water dish. This means it's clean for like 5 minutes a day. Maybe.

Enter the covered water dish.

Her expression when she slides down and encounters the clear cover is priceless. Very put out, almost offended! How dare this thing be in my way! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before she learns to just pop the cover off, and I feel a little guilty taking away her preferred drinking pose, but for now, it's been 2 whole days of water that remained cleeeeean!

They are such cuckoo birds, aren’t they? They sure have their own personalities and ways of doing things. When she first encountered the clear cover, she must have thought, “WHAT???” It sure sounds like she really liked her old water bowl if she was even eating on it. Cleopatra sort of does the same thing with her food. She’ll grab some food out of her food bowl and jump on her swing over to the other side of the cage to eat it. After she is done, she flies back to her food bowl and does the same thing again. I guess she thinks eating at the same place all the time is boring and it’s more fun to eat elsewhere?

Oh yes, Luna takes one seed and then carries it to either the water dish, her swing, or the top of her cuttlebone (another ultimate favorite perch), eats it, then goes back and repeats. I think she expends more energy going from place to place than one little seed would provide! Lol. They are funny creatures, that's for sure.

Yep, when she first slid down to get her usual sip, she actually bonked into the cover fairly firmly! I don't think she saw it A few days in and she is still acting offended by it.
