Thumbs up ~~~What Pets Want You To Know~~~

I saw this letter sent to the Reader's Digest. It is short. It is about a pet that someone had and this pet did some amazing things. It reminded me of a parrotlet, in a way. We p'lett owners are always wondering just how our little parrotlets can figure out certain things, like, how do they know when we humans are feeling down and out, etc.

Letter writer Becky Meyers of Michigan wrote:

" I am hearing impaired, as are my two children. Almost as soon as our " superdog " Skippy, came to live with us, she seemed to sense that we could not hear. When someone comes to the door, Skippy nudges me until I follow her. She barks only when my husband, who has perfect hearing, is home. "

I love stories like this! It makes me wonder just how much in tune our pets are with us. I was always taught that animals couldn't reason like us humans, but as I read more and more stories about pets doing wonderful things, it makes me wonder if they can reason like us!

On many occasions, the parrotlet named Bogie, who owned me, by the way, did some pretty fantastic " reasoning " of his own! I didn't realize how much he was in tuned with me until I wrote my book about him. I think our experts have to reevaluate the statement, " The human species is the only species on earth who can reason. "

Bigboy is on a distinguished road

Years ago, after my husband had had knee surgery, we travelled to Honduras for a vacation. While there we had the opportunity to swim with dolphins. At one point a group of dolphins surrounded my husband, lifted him to the surface, and swam with him there. We later found out that when dolphins "sense" a wounded member of their group, they do just that. It was scary for my husband because he didn't know what their intention was. But it ended up being an amazing, inter-species experience.

Thumbs up

Dolphins have saved humans from drowning, etc.. They are amazing and they use that 3 pound brain of theirs for good causes! I love them and I wish I could have one, but it is not to be. Such a magnificent animal !
I am glad you told us about that experience! Horses can sense that some humans are special, too!
