I thought Pip was going to have a day in his cage but he wanted to fly some on his own this evening. He came out and flew to the top of his cage then over to his playstand. He flew over to me and I gave him a few head rubs then back to the stand then cage then stand. He did this for a few rounds until he finally went back home and into his cage. Here I thought he was being sweet for coming to visit me but soon after he went home I found out why he was coming over to say hello...

I did not have any millet for him so he had to settle for pellets. He gave a good performance though it was a shame he had already eaten his millet for the day... poor little guy

Not a lot going on today Pip has done a few circles to and from his cage and then come for a visit. He looked for some millet on his playstand but could only find a few scraps left over from this mornings training.

We are working on handling now. I am putting him in uncomfortable settings like having my hand over him and playing with his feet. He has gotten really good with letting me handle him pretty quickly. I can even open his wing a bit without him getting upset. I never plan on clipping him but just wanted to get him used to being handled while he is young.

It has been two weeks and a day since I got him and we have already reached a point I am happy with. If he never learned anything else he would be great just like he is. I do want him to be independent and entertain himself but I still want him to come see me once and a while and so far that is what he is doing.

I did get my first experience with 'what ya got in the bowl' tonight. I fixed myself a bowl of soup and he come out of his cage to the playstand to see what I was eating. I do not think I want him to get used to eating with me so put him back in his cage and he had himself some pellets while I ate my soup.

I think this might be a good way to get him eating vegetables though but I want to think about it a little. I think if I put in a veggie chop right before I eat he might take to it more but I do not want him eating with me. This way he gets his dinner/vegetables in his cage, pellets all day long and then seeds/millet when he is training or out on the playstand.

I did discover that he prefers his pellets now over his seed mix. I put some seeds in his playstand cup and was working with him a little on handling tonight when he flew back home. He still had seeds left but flew to his cage, got a drink then starting eating his pellets and went on to play with his swing after.

Hi again, just came across this about pluckers and bee pollen, in cas ipyou havenít seen it yet as it goes back to 2008....

Bee pollen is recommended for a lot of parrots, and especially pluckers. Parrotlets eat bee pollen in the wild when they eat the flowers and nectar. The bee pollen I use is made by Goldenfeast - they make so many great foods for parrots.

We have worked hard the last few weeks and I think we are at a good point now to take a little break. I am going to just let him do his thing for a few days and see how he wants to interact with me. I have just been letting him do whatever he wants today. He has come over to see me a few times and I have stopped by his cage to see him too while giving him head rubs with each visit.

I want to keep interacting with him inside of his cage so he learns that it is our cage not just his. He does not know it yet but I have ordered him a few new toys too...

I found a new place to get toys and wanted to get Pip a safer snuggle toy. They sell "Birdie Binkies and Snuggle Buddies" made out of no-pill fleece for a good price. If you are interested in looking at their stuff I will post the link below. I might have found the place because of a post I seen here so you might already know about them though..
