David:
Sorry to hear of your loss.
You are so eloquent I'm sure you did your Uncle proud!

Chuck:

You are such a nice person! I gave a speech at the eulogy, along with prayer and Scripture suggestions. I spoke for almost 45 minutes about my Uncle Clarence. He had 4 children and 3 were there at the funeral. He lost his second oldest child last year. His child was injured in an automobile accident 30 years ago and he lost his feelings below the waist. The child, named Ricky, grew up with me and was born the exact same day and year that I was! We were both born on Labor Day( the first Monday in September). We had a bond, for sure.

When I talked about Ricky in the funeral, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Clarence would have wanted me to say something about how much he loved his son. I talked about things that happened between Ricky and his father. People wanted to know about these memories.

I continued telling people about all the memories of me and Clarence. Clarence was an extremely funny man and told stories that made you laugh, as well as cry. I have a well developed memory and I repeated some of the stories Clarence told me and his friends. As I spoke, I looked around the funeral home and looked at the people's faces. The were laughing at the stories and crying at the stories as I spoke.

My Aunt and her children came up to me at the end of the funeral and gave me the biggest hugs! They said that they were glad I spoke and their friends said that they will never forget the things I said and how I presented myself.

It was an honor. I will miss my uncle dearly!

My wife makes bears in honor of people who have passed. People give her a favorite shirt or glasses or hat, etc., of the deceased and she makes a stuffed bear out of part of the shirt, etc., and puts the shirt on the bear. There is a name for that type of bear, but I forget the name.

My uncle was a Florida State Seminoles football fan for years, so my wife was given a Florida State shirt and she will use that material, along with a headband with Florida State Seminoles on it.
When my aunt looks at the bear, it will remind her of her husband.

It sounds as if you truly did your uncle proud - as he always knew you would. I can totally relate to your experience.
This past winter a good friend, someone I worked with for 50 years passed away. I was asked to speak at the funeral. It is not my style. He was always the talker, I was the quiet one. We worked as a team. He was the director with me, the choreographer. People laughed and cried during my speech too. When I finished, I got a round of applause. I don't know if they do that in other religions, but it was quite a shock at this Jewish funeral.
I hope I helped ease some folks' loss with my memories. I am sure you did with yours.
