I use a portable carrier. They all hate the harness. My smaller cage that was easy to get outside died so they go out in their carrier not their ideal but for now ok.

Yes, you have to do the shuffle walk my cockatiels love running on the floor and Oliver has joined them but took him 5 years. So I shuffle while their out so I don't step on them.

So sorry to hear about Ming. Best advice don't rush into it. A baby is the best bet no matter what type of bird you coose. Or a rescue that is hand tamed.
