What to do

I have been having some health issues, allergy testing on Monday revealed I am allergic to Huey. What to do? What to do?

I can just imagine the add if I were to rehome him.

Green 6 year old parrotlet who does not like the color green so he pulls out the green feathers. Not very friendly unless he eats fish, then he has fish breath (yuck).

Hand tame to a point but will turn on you faster than you can sneeze and bite the crap out of you until you bleed. Gets very excited and yells at everyone in his sight. If you get close to his cage he will lunge at you like he is a T Rex. Jumping over your hand when asked to step up is one of his favorite things to do. I swear you can hear him laughing as he lands beyond your hand and runs away.

Loves to eat what ever you are eating for dinner as long as it is not green (refer to first sentence). Peanuts given by dad are a favorite but before he tastes them there is a lot of yelling and lunging. You can tell when he actually begins to eat because he gets quiet.

Travels well and actually loves to bathe in his travel cage soaking those holding him.

Jeopardy is a must,it comes on at 7 pm. Suggest that you tape a show to play on the weekends as he sits and waits, he does not understand weekends..........

I am sorry to hear this! But, just what is the part that you are allergic to? Dander ? Feathers? Some people are allergic to bird poop, not the bird.

Do you have other animals around the home? Do you live in a place that had animals there before you moved in?

I had a neighbor who had a bird and was allergic to him. He was a Cockatiel. He made her eyes get irritated, so she misted the bird every three days and took a wet cloth and wiped the bird down every day and this gave her some relief.

I hope you can keep Huey. It would be hard for someone to take him.

That's a hard one for sure...

I guess the first thing that comes to mind is a family member that might be able to keep him so you can visit. If not maybe there is a bird sanctuary around you that takes in birds and keeps them so you can visit him there. (I would for sure do a test to see if removing him from your home makes a real difference before doing anything)

I have been tested because I was having issues, hubby reminded me that I was holding Huey more and keeping him near my face when he was in my hand.

I have no other animals, house was remodeled when we moved in 5 years ago. My head keeps clogging. It is in the back part of my head not the nose. The can not test specifically for Parrotlets they can test for parakeet, chickens, ducks and another bird I forget. Only the parakeet came back positive.

No one that I know would take him he is too mean when people are over.

I will wait till I see my ENT later this month. Ive had him for 6 years and these symptoms started in May of this year. Funny he actually allowed his feathers to grow back around that time as well. This year he has looked most like a bird in years.

My stepdad is allergic to our parrotlet. It's worse now with the conure too, but unless there's something pressing, he doesn't come in to our house. I know it's not an option for you to live outside though. :(

Is there any way to manage the allergies? But man, we're likely talking for more than a few years so I could see why that wouldn't work.

Very sorry to hear that you are likely allergic to Huey. Is there a bird club in your town or a nearby town where maybe you could re-home him to one of the members? Since you said the symptoms started in May, is there anything else that could have changed at that time?

I had a full panel and asked for the bird and some other foods. I had been tested last about 15 years ago. I had a log of items drop off my allergic list.

Nothing changed except Huey started keeping his feathers for a longer time. Im going to wait to see what my ENT doctor says in a few weeks before I do anything
