New playground

After looking online at the large playgrounds and seeing how much manzanita wood costs I decided to build my own gym.

Its the first time I've ever tried anything like this so I'm pretty pleased. To add color to the dowels I used bird safe cake icing that I mixed with alcohol as the alcohol sterilizes the wood as it dries. I was really pleased how well the colors came out and walmart has the dyes for a really reasonable price.

I wanted different ways to get to each level so I have a normal ladder, a spiral staircase and lastly a rope ladder, of course Gizmo cheats and uses her cage but I don't mind.

The top level is still awaiting me going to buy some more dowel so I can hang the ladder thats on the 3rd level. I also need to complete a basketball hoop that my husband insisted we have. The wood I covered with floor tiles as I didn't want the hassle of trying to clean poop out of porous wood.

I still have a boat load of toys that need to arrive so I can finish but at least I got my steel eyes so I can hang what I already had.

Nikki is the one who encouraged me to have a go so thanks Nikki and you guys wont believe the cool playgym she has also built.

What wood did you use on the floors? What was the source for your woods?

I used pine for the floors and both pine and oak depending on which was available for the dowels. All of which were raw and untreated.

Isn't she awesome! That's the best looking playstand I've ever seen. Some happy birdies at lisap's house!

Very nice! Has your bird decided it's safe yet? If not, try clipping on millet sprays
