breeder vs. pet store

I think it depends. Some pet stores are terrible, but some breeders are terrible too.

Might as well take a look around your local pet stores and see if they offer parrotlets or whatever you wanna buy. Then see if they're clean, well run, and if the staff are knowledgeable. Try to see if you can get to know your bird before you buy it, too.

Breeders you treat the same way, try to get photos of their facilities, see if they know what they're talking about, and get to know your bird before hand.

IF you are in NY, close to Jersey, ther is a store in Jersey called Bird Paradise, they are in Burrlington...I think, and they have a real good reputation, healthy birds etc..they hand feed babies..and the store is huge..

Bird Paradise is a wonderful store -- in fact, it's one of the things I miss most about New Jersey (we're living in Central Florida now). The store is immaculate, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the sheer size and scope of the store plus the variety of things they have for sale has to be seen to be believed.
