I got mine at kind of a junk store for $25. They had a whole bunch of them. Unfortunately, the junk store is long gone, which is too bad, because they had tons of neat stuff -- like old breakfronts with marble tops (no room in our little house!). Anyway, the guy told me people were buying the old peddle sewing machines, throwing away the cabinets and making tables out of the iron bases.
I just wanted to refinish the cabinet and leave it as a sewing machine. I went to a Singer dealer to get a new belt and a "foot". I gave him the serial number and he looked i up. Said it was from about 1920, no not a true "antique" -- yet. He offered me $25 for the iron base -- no go! I love the "country" look of it. It sits in our family room, right below an old beveled glass mirror with a thick wooden frame. The frame has 3 old coat hooks on it. My mother-in-law gave it to me years ago. Apparently it used to hang in my husband's grandparent's basement and his grandfather used to shave by it! A nice remembrance (once I refinished it and had the mirror resilvered).
By the way, your birdies are beautiful! Aren't Parrotlets such fun? But SO complicated! LOL! Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures!
