Hubby put this together today. Cost $4. Still need to wrap it. Planning on adding a climbing net. Also may had another perch to middle. It fits on top of cage or can be moved to a table top.

Great job! :)
I have a question, is it possible to make these without owning a saw?

Thank you... We use a small hacksaw. They are pretty inexpensive. You can also use pipe cutter with a round blade. If you know exactly the size you need Lowes or Home Depot will cut it for you.

What will u use to wrap it with? And can I use regular rope that they have at the hardware store for a perch and/or toy? I'm lucky enough my brother works at home depot. Thanks for any info :)

Karyn... I'm going to use vet wrap. You can also use bird safe rope to wrap it. I think they call it sissel rope.
Yes, sisal rope or vet wrap should both be fine, according to what I have read on the web.

That's cute! I'm sure you're p'lets will love the finished product. =] I'm so jealous of all you crafty people with your pvc pipe-play gyms. I would like to make one for Lola eventually, but first I need some $ and second I need a plan! (:

This looks great!
I didn't know that you need to wrap the pipe with sisal rope. It makes sense though.
While at the Dollar Store the other day in the toy section I saw these table top hockey net kits. Basically a set of 1 inch plastic pipes with a net that you can put together. They only cost $2 so I bought 2 sets with the idea that I could make a sweet little table top play gym for my new parrotlet.
Now I know that I should wrap the pipes up in sisal but how do you get the rope to stay attached to the pipe? Obviously you can't glue it so how do you get it to stick?

That is a good question Lakeside, I would like to know how to make the rope stay, you can also use 100 % cotton rope. I do know some glues you can use if it is child safe you can use it on bird things.

Drill a hole slightly larger than the rope, stick it in, and shoot a bunch of hot melt glue inside. I do this all the time for my PVC playgyms (pictures of my new one coming soon). Hot melt glue is extremely safe - I actually use it for implantible devices for animals. Just don't heat it while your birds are in the room as the vapors can be dangerous if inhaled.
I use a lot of cotton rope. My parrotlets seem to prefer it, perhaps because it's soft.

I purchased some rope to make a net. After emailing the company I found out it was treated will oil & something else. So I'm looking for rope again.

I was going to just tie it across one end then the other.

This one looks like it was wrapped with some sort of blue tape. Is that right?

It is vet wrap. It sticks to itself.

Vet wrap! How clever! I suppose that first aid wrap you can get for us humans would do the trick too. So much easier than trying to wrap it with sisal.
Thanks.

No cleverness on my behalf. I learned about the vet wrap somewhere, maybe here. I guess first add wrap would work, not sure though. Your welcome :)
