Anyone know I'd they are safe? I mean the normal ones you see in craft stores. Also what about the colored ones? I bought a package of colored ones and wanted to sure they are safe to use.

I think the only safe bells are the ones with the clappers. Their beaks and toes can't get stuck in them. I did find one on a bird toy that had almost no slit at all, that I highly doubt any nail can get caught in, as I can't even get my nail into it, and I have really thin nails.

Ok didn't think of things getting caught in them I was thinking about the metal. Poo! :( I was excited because they are so pretty!

Ah, no idea about the metal, but I do know they aren't recommended for the whole possibility of beaks and toes getting caught. They would be pretty though if they were safe =P

The ones with slits are very dangerous, their feet, legs and beak can get caught in those slits. The type of metal would be hard to find out, but mine do have bells, I got them at a reptuable bird store, so I am hoping they know what they are selling.

I'm leery of those colored ones that I see at the craft stores bcuz who knows what chemicals are in the dyes, paint varnish they use, and they are most likely manufactured in china or somewhere where they are allowed to use lead and other toxic ingredients......I'm just sayin......
