I have two parrotlest I sadly dont know the age of. They are a couple, and on the fifth of this month, they laid a small white egg, following up with 3 more during the next days.

I candeled them today, and sadly they seem unfertile. It seems to me that the egg yolk have collected at the bottom of the eggs, and im wondering if they might not turn them as they are supposed to?

Im sure this is the first time they breed, and I understand that it's rather common for firsttimer to laid unfertail eggs etc. Question is tho, what do I do now? Should I remove the eggs, have them nest on them until they tire of them and move on, or replace them with a couple of budgie eggs of close to the same age?

This is my first time breeding tropical birds, and im very clueless about the whole thing sadly...

Hanzo -

I suggest you take the birds to a certified Avian Veterinarian for a checkup - it could be possible these birds are too old to breed since you don't know their age. Or they may have some other issues.

I strongly suggest you read up and find out all you can about breeding Parrotlets - their requirements, health, set up etc before setting these two up to breed again.

Without knowing all you can you could be unknowingly putting the birds at risk.

This are store bougth a few months ago, so if anything they are to young, not to old to breed. Sadly there are no good avian vets around this parts. I tried finding one when my first veterinary said I had parrot fever when a bugdie died. Luckely the autopsy proved otherwise.

I was hopeing they where just young and inexperienced. Im reading up on the subject, and got fertile bugdie eggs atleast that will help me with some experience on the breeding of birds. I used to have dows many years ago, but that was pretty much a whole diffrent thing.

Hanzo,

If you poke around this site, there is a list of certified Avian vets in the US. One might be closer than you think. Based on my wife's experience with previous birds and even one of our Parrotlets, I'd be very wary of using a general practice vet.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of breeding experience so I'll leave it to others to give advice on what to do with the eggs.

I live in norway, and we got only 1 avian vet expert clinique here, and thats a 8 hour drive 1 way :(

Unfertile eggs aint all that uncommon tho is it? Im more surpised that it looks like the yolk seems to be shifted to 1 side, as I though is was instinct to turn them every few hour or so.

Ah,

Norway is a little more difficult...

I don't know enough about breeding to provide you with a useful answer about the egg yolk.
