I would like to know how to quote. Every time I try to, it quotes the whole post rather than just what I want.

Also, how do I add photos to the body of a post so that it can be seen without having to click on attachments?

When you click the option to quote someone you will see the brackets that state quote = and the name of the poster, along with their message.

If you do not want to copy all of their text, simply delete the part that you do not want to copy. I placed spaces below so that you can see the whole text I am talking about.

For example, I want to only quote "I would like to know how to quote."

Maybe someone else will come along and tell you about the photos. :)

It didn't work, I'm not getting that little box that it puts the quote in.

Are you hitting the quote button on the bottom of the posting that you want to quote? That's how I get to quote other people's posts.

I think when you take out the text you don't want in the quote box, you're taking out the "[/quote]" tag at the end. Try leaving that at the end of the quote and seeing if it works.

As for adding in pictures in the thread, above the box where you type your message, there's a bunch of little boxes to click that bolds or italicizes your font and stuff:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b67/Crentesa/Picture1-2.png
Click the one that looks like a picture of a little mountain.

It asks for a link to the photo you want to put.
For this, you can use the site Tinypic (http://tinypic.com/). Just select the photo you want to upload, and it will give you a couple links to the photo you just uploaded. Copy the one in the "direct link for layouts" and put it in the box asking for the url, like:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b67/Crentesa/Picture3-5.png

Press okay and something like link to picture should show up. When you post, it will be the picture.

The first quote tag contains the username and ID number from the post you're quoting. The only thing that's really required in the first tag is the word quote. But the other thing required is the closing tag at the end of what you're quoting, or the board doesn't recognize it correctly.

These tags slightly resemble the HTML tags that are used to format most, if not all web pages. And they can do all sorts of things from adding images to a post to any number of other things since they can be customized by board admins. But many things that you normally do such as bold/italicized text or bullet lists normally have the tags hidden because most people use the WYSIWYG (short for What You See Is What You Get) post editing mode. But if you start a post with lots of extra formatting, you can see the tags by toggling to the text-only mode when you click the http://www.talkparrotlets.com/images/editor/switchmode.gif button at the top-right of the editor window.

To see a full list of available tags and how to use them, head over to this page:

I think when you take out the text you don't want in the quote box, you're taking out the "" tag at the end. [/quote]

Sunnydays, isn't that kind of a pain in the butt? Seems like a lot of steps to put a picture here. Is that the only way?

There's a link to the BB code page at the bottom of every thread page on the left side. As far as images, you can also attach them to the board. There's two ways to do that - there's a paperclip icon at the top of the post editor, or there's a "Magage Attachments" button below the editor window. Readers then get either a link or thumbnail to click, depending on how the board is set up.

BBcode is very easy, as long as you remember to put in your opening and closing tags. I use it all the time, as it's quicker for me to type in the coding than it is for me to hit the quote key and then delete what I don't want.

For quotes, your opening tag is [*quote]. I added the asterisk in front so that the beginning tag will show up. Once you have the beginning tag, copy/paste what you want to quote. At the end, put your closing tag [*/quote]. Again, remove the beginning asterisk. Message boards don't use HTML, as a lot can be embedded within the coding, so it's a security risk. In coding, the main difference between opening and closing is the "/". / indicates the end of what you are doing and whatever you are trying to do won't work without it.

cool, I'll try your way Callie, that seems easy enough.

I know about the paperclip and the manage attachments but they always just give me the link and doesn't actually post the picture within the post. I tried the tag for attachment and couldn't get it to work. Maybe I'll just have to do it the long way lol.

The only way I can get pictures to show up on my posting and not just the click on the attachment and then you get to see the picture is if i already have the picture online somewhere. Then I click on "insert link" tab (the one that likes like the earth and a paperclip) and put the link in there and the picture pops up.

I don't have any pictures online, just on my computer. I'll have to try that website and fool around with it when I have some extra time. Thanks everyone!

Some forums allow uploading from your computer but many don't, as it can be a security risk.

If you use Photobucket for online storage, you will see that each photo has several URL codes. To post the image, copy the one that indicates image and paste it here. To see if the link works, preview the message, or you can just hit submit reply and see what happens. When in doubt, I preview.
