Here is a photo of the 3 blue chicks being raised by the breeder. She thinks the oldest one is going to be male due to its dark wing feathers forming, the middle will be a female because it is lacking dark blue feathers, and the youngest is still up in the air because it doesn't have any feathers.

Look at the tiny one on the left. Is that a clutch mate Catfish? It looks alot littler than the others. Maybe the last one hatched.
SOOOOOOOOcute, the little faces are so sweet. I love little blaby P'lets.

here's the newest pics. The one perching on her hand is the oldest and the male. The other 2 prefer to crawl and had no desire to even try. She expected my Hpnotiq to try and perch, but NOPE she's stubborn. The smallest she wasn't expecting to do much and she was right!

I'm buying from a local breeder. She breeds scotties, african grays, and parrotlets. She only has a couple of birds available every once in a while. Very nice lady.

I love being able to see them grow up!
I might be able to pick my little girl up before september 20th... she was shocked to see them pecking the ground and trying to eat some millet. She'll be feeding millet and various veggies and see how they do. They will be allowed to syringe feed and eat the food. Yay!!!!

Pam the breeder is almost certain Hpnotiq will be able to come home this weekend. Hpnotiq LOVES brocolli and various other veggies. It looks like I got another good eater....
now if only the QPs would eat better.... stubborn little *censored* won't eat anything but seed and millet. I've tried all the pellets (zupreem, kaytee, harrisons, and roudybush).... I'm now trying the conure size... but nothing so far. I can't even get them to try Beak apetit. I have gotten Crabby to eat some carrot (if I hand feed him).... maybe if they see both p'lets eating, they will eat other things...

Are birds the type of "monkey see, monkey do" personalities???
catfish
09-04-2007, 09:46 PM
from my experience birds will copy what others do in their flock. When I had the original stray keet, I adopted a cage mate for him. . . after the quarantine where he would only eat seed, I put him together with the stray. They bonded and were fine. I had pellets in there and the stray would eat them, the other saw and decided to eat them. From that point on, the budgies were on a pellet diet, seed for treats, and various veggies.
The only reason the new budgie would even touch anything is becaues the stray would eat them first.
I believe Buuz has mentioned before how her budgies shifted to the water bottle because they saw one of the flock try it.
The same thing has happened with the carrots and my QP. General will at least take a nibble from the carrot b/c she saw Crabby eat from one. She won't really take more than one nibble, but it's better than what she did in the past.... SCREAM and through a temper tantrum if it was anywhere inside the cage. You would think I stuck my cat in there with her.

LOL. :rolleyes::rolleyes:
So, I am going to apply this to my wild Maya. You may have read before, that she is still untame, and wild. She doesn't bite or anything, but she tries to fly away.
So if I hold Oscar and play with and handle him, and she sees, would that maybe make her less scared, and be more adventerous, and one day let me hold her?
catfish
09-04-2007, 09:54 PM
maybe, but you will still have to work with her one on one to get her to trust you.
Crabby still doesn't trust me 100% yet and i've had him 2 months. I can do step up and other things with him, but no scritches.
It's all about being patient and understanding.
nar1122
09-04-2007, 09:57 PM
Yea. With Maya, I let her play with Oscar and I will play with her toys around her and play with her seed bowl, and let her look at my hand. Sometimes she just sits there staring in amazement. Sometimes when she is less afraid, I will pick her up and just cup her in my hand and talk to her, and scratch her. She seems to be getting more used to that.
She is definately a great bird though. She is a great eater, she is nice to Oscar, she plays with him, she plays with toys, etc.
I'm really glad I got her for him. :D

Hpnotiq's hatch date is August 5th, and Pam is bringing me a certificate so I can keep it on record.
Now we both were surprised as to how quickly Hpno weaned, but she did not force wean her. She's hasn't been tolerating the syringe since last week, only taking a little bit here and there... but since the beginning of this week, she has no desire to feed from it. She is a big girl~
I can't wait to bring her home this weekend. . . and if there is some reason she regresses some, I'm not worried. I worked with Gelato before, and I can do it again if need be... but I hope I don't have to. I really REALLY don't like to do it.

I was terrified when I first introduced my female to my male. He was so much bigger than her. I introduced them outside a cage in a room my male had never been in so he was on unfamiliar ground also. oh you'll hear all about it. don't worry :)
i figure I'll start working with letting him meet her after the quarantine... even though I'm sure she is healthy, I cannot risk getting my birds sick. She'll be going to see my vet this next week.
this time next month I'll be introducing them together... the only thing I'm a little sad about is that Pam clipped her wings. She had good reason, to keep her safe from her CAGs. I just can't wait until she can fly like gelato.
I do clip my Quaker's wings but that's because they are bullies to the 100th degree....
DOH - thats too bad about the wing clipping - I asked my breeder too late also and she had already clipped Penny's wings. I picked her up in March and she just began to fly this last month. It was a long long wait :D
Looking forward to hearing how things go.

I just realized I didn't spell her name right on the slide show... I mixed up the spellings... when i talk w/ pam I spell it hypnotic (she is an older lady and I don't want to upset her by naming the bird after an alcohol) and when I type here I spell it hpnotiq... well in the slide show I spelt it hpnotic

LOL.
I am in the process of putting Oscar and Maya together. Hopefully for you, it wont take until December...
Oscar and Maya showed immediate signs of enjoyment and getting along. But to be on the safe side, I am not going to put them together full time until about two weeks from now.
They are both getting perfectly along though.
It is such a great experience!!
Good luck!! :):):)
