I have seen some pic with cages draped with silk plants. I think this would soften the look of the cage while enriching the enviornment. Do you think it would pose any kind of problems?

Well, your bird will eat them and chew on them and I don't think silk plants are very healthy to eat, your bird could get tangled and strangle, so many things that could happen, they will surely get pooped on, then they won't look very pretty, to me it is a dangerous thing to do and would also casue a lot of work..jmho

P'lets will definitely chew them too pieces... even if outside the cage, whatever they can reach. And to be honest, I have fake ivy hanging in my kitchen, it's a killer to clean because it gets really dusty and throwing it in a bucket of water and soap doesn't seem to get them as clean as I would like.

Just wanted some opinions, thanks i will let the silk flowers stay at hobby lobby. More money for the important stuff like toys:)

I have more rope perches on top of the cage. They are fun.

I keep talking about making a play ground, i never thought of putting those on the outside. Neat idea, thank you. Loved the pic.

Yes, great idea. I went and got Boda rope after seeing your pic and have put it on the outside of the cage and hung lots of toys from it. They seem to like it.

i keep fake ivy strung along the back of my p'lets cage, they seem to LOVE it and it is inexpensive, i get it for 1 dollar at dollar general, when it gets dirty, pooped on too much, or picked clean, i replace it.,

I think the "picked clean" part may be an issue if they're chewing on the plastic and potentially swallowing a some of it.

plastic is an issue, and generally there is metal wire in the plastic of most ivy plants. so you have to worry about zinc toxicity.

plus since it is the dollar store, it's probably made in china, who has not had the greatest track record of safe products.

i would rather be safe than sorry. i stick rope perches and toys. plus the silk plants would be hard to keep clean imo.

I watched closely the first few days i decided to put it in there, they do not 'chew' on it or anything, just simply pick some of the 'leafs' off.... almost like they are making more room to perch.

You're lucky. My guys would chew them to pieces:eek:

I experimented with plastic plants - the type sold for aquariums and reptiles. The p'lets left them alone the first few months...then they turned into chew toys and got totally shredded!

I thought about those too, thanks for posting!
