I got my green parrotlet maddyx last wednesday(Road trip!)She dosnt do much at all.All she does is sit on one perch. She will climb her cage ceiling but only to go to the same perch again.Ive seen her eat, drink and snack on millet and I do take her out everyday as she is hand tame but why hasnt she touched her toys?Is this because she is still setteling in?She dosnt even play on the basket playgym I made(thnx parrotletsrock its so cool)do i just let her calm down or play with her more to entice play?

In my opinion just let her get used to them... do not force her to try to play... you can play with things yourself and try to get her interested in them... I have toys and I will tap them with a finger or crinkle them between my finger and thumb to get my p'lets interest... he trusts me and is bonded to me so I can carefully offer him something ... watching his body language to see if he is spooked.. leary of or ok with a toy, if he leans slightly away I will just back off a bit and keep offering... if he acts aggressive or looks like he will fly I back away a lot with it... you don't want to scare the bird... if he ignores it or acts indifferent but not scared I may stroke his beak or chest with it and he may then beak it a little or chew on lt. The fact she is tame is a good thing but you still have to give her a chance to bond to you and learn to trust you... as she does she will be more willing to try things you offer cuz then she knows you would not hurt her. ... your welcome for the basket idea! My p'let is not a big toy player... he will chew up a few shredding toys and he has a little bell on a chain toy the screws to the side of his cage that he picks up in his foot to play with... all I hear is a tiny tinkle...lol.

How old is she?? I am not to sure about how much they should sleep in the daytime... mine have ( 2 budgies 1 p'let ) a quiet time in the late morning to mid afternoon and then a nappy time around late afternoon... in the quite time in the morning they are not napping so much as just not real chirpy... the preen and feed and chirp quietly.

She may still be nervous about her new surroundings, but I would suggest taking her to an Avian vet just to check things out, to be on the safe side and put your mind at ease.

You can try playing parrotlet youtube videos for her :) When I brought my first budgie home from the breeder, she acted just like that- she was really, really quiet and didn't move much. She was healthy, but it was a big adjustment for her going from a noisy aviary to a "quiet" home with no other birds. This was before youtube, so we ended up going back to the breeder and recording all of the birds chirping. She really came to life when we played that recording for her. Maybe Maddyx would like to listen to some parrotlets on youtube?

ParrotletsRock - do you have information on making a play basket? I am particularly concerned about making sure it is bird safe. Thanks!
