Anyone know if live Christmas trees could be poisonous to tropical birds? My cockatiel and parrotlet are fascinated and have been trying to sit on the branches & I wanted to make sure that pine tree sap/ needles weren't potentially problematic. Lights on the tree are turned off when either of them are near it- I don't want to relive the National Lampoon movie :)
Thanks
Callie

Pine and fir trees are safe for birds, however, anything sprayed on those trees for whatever reason may not be. I would use caution when allowing my parrots access to a live tree.
Unsafe for birds are the Christmas lights. Safe are the LED lights but others have lead in the wiring which is dangerous for our birds. Here is a site that sells lights that are lead free: http://ww1.christmasdepot.com/index.php
