I noticed when Jose came home he had a very small spot about the size of an Pencil Eraser under his chin that was bald- thought this was normal Not that area has grown to go slightly around his neck, you can't see it unless you look for it like when he is getting scrtiches, but I am afraid it is going to get worse and wonder why it is happening. There is no way he could pluck this area as is is under his beak/ Chin area if you will , :p. He is molting right now, but I don't think bald patches are normal for molting. What if anything can be done. Change in diet or supplements?
Thanks

I think the small under the chin baldness is probably normal. My Charlie has the same thing. His is growing now too. I thought he was plucking but I don't think he can reach that far up. I'm hoping it is due to molt. He is actually taking a bath on his own right now because his feathers seem to be bugging him, plus he looks sort of messy. No other bald spots tho.

Both my p'let and 2 budgies have a bare spot under their beaks... I believe it is normal.

Every parrot I have ever owned had a small bald spot under the lower beak, it gets a little thinned when they molt too. I would watch it if it goes too far around the neck though, probably when the feathers come in it will be back to normal, just a small spot under the lower beak.

Yeah, he is starting to look a bit rough around the edges right now with his molt.. but seems to be fairing quite well overall with mood and behavior. Thank you all for your encouragement. These little guys sure make you worry. I have not taken him to the avaian vet yet, he now has an appoinemtn next Thusday for his well checkup. I waited a bit long I know, life gets in the way. Will let you know how that goes.

Whew, I'm glad to know this is normal. Maybe this little hole in his chin is why he always has food stuck to his face.....hehe

...become concerned if you find feathers under there! Also, be pleased that you are seeing that little spot, generally does not get seen until your bird allows you to preen them. Exposing that spot to you is quite daring for them and very trusting.
