Well sweet Jose has increased his biting and I think he is molting, no longer the sweetie he has been? I see some not a lot of feathers in the bottom of his cage- and his feathers look like they may be begining to molt- out of sorts if you will. He was hatched on August 12th making him 4 months old. He seems to be chewing and checking EVERYTHING out with his beak, my husband says "it's like he is teething" He has a cuttlebone and mineral source, uses the cuttle bone does not use the mineral source at all.
What advice if any can you give us...
Thank you!

Sounds like he may be molting. I believe 4 months is about right... though a bit late in Minnesota to be molting; but hey, they're pretty much in a controlled temperature environment so I guess it doesn't matter.

Give him lots of baths/showers. That's really the only thing that helps with my guys.

If he was born on August 12th, he is just 3 month old. Isn't that too early for a first molt?

It is a little early, but just like with people, some hit those developmental milestones a little sooner than others. I agree that lots of baths and misting will help :)

Jose seems to be much better these past few days.. no more fethers lost and had only a few like maybe 4 no big ones either, so maybe I jumped the gun. And your right I counted wrong he is only 3 months old...:o. I think he maybe had a few days of asserting himself.... there will be more I am sure, will watch him though. I had a private message from someone who also stated that her p'lets (also from Mn) are molting - and they also molted at 3-4 months when they wre younger... so I guess nothing is an absolute... w/ these little birdies. But it is great to have all of your input. Thank you... and good tips with the baths, ( which he hates but will continue anyway)!
