Hey, this is my first post, so yay for that! But anyway, I've had my parrotlet for about a month and a half now, and i've been keeping in in a kinda small cage, but i let him out allot and stuff, but since i FINALLY taught him to step up and that i'm not a bad guy, what is a good size for a normal cage and a good size for a flight cage? thanks in advance!

Hi - Welcome to the forum! Lots of us have the HQ flight cage (I have 2 of them) and love them. Parrotlets are busy birds and need lots of room for toys, jumping, climbing and exploring. The HQ is the perfect size, excellent quality and a great price.

You can do an online search for HQ flight cage and check out the best prices. I think that lately, the best price is from www.birdscomfort.com (http://www.birdscomfort.com) , but it's always good to check around.

Also, you might check the housing section of this forum. You'll find lots of good information about different cages, including the HQ.

I usually tell people to get the largest cage they can afford and have room for -- you and your bird will be happy!

(By the way, I moved your thread to the housing section.)

Something like an HQ flight cage would be awesome, but a 30" X 18" X 18" breeder cage makes a nice, roomy dwelling for a p'let. They have pullout trays, but generally don't have pullout grates. However, if you place a small piece of newspaper over the grate but under your p'let's favorite perch, you might be surprised how easy they are to clean.

Another option is this cage on ebay:

I have two of them and love them. And you sure cant beat the price! Good luck in your search.....

Just some advice on buying a cage- I knew nothing about buying cages and purchased one before I brought Jose Home- I bought it from someone off of Ebay and after finding out more about Cages and paint etc.. ( from thsi site thankfully) I found that I had no idea what the paint was and had no way of finding out. The cage was large enough, but a bit flimsy and was basically a cage that would last a few years at best. I could not risk putting my bird in it not knowing the paint. I am not saying don't purchase form Ebay, just be careful who you purchase from on Ebay- JudiNH has suggested a reputabel seller- but there are many on there that are not and sell cages with zinc and lead in the paint that I would not suggest for the bird. I have a cage now that sits in my spare room that I paid good money for that will become a decoration on my deck next summer!!! :( I would never try and re-sell it as I don't want any bird to be put in a cage that is potentially harmful to them. Live and learn I guess..
