First birdie snuggle ring

I made it for my new lovebird's breeder. She wanted one for her birds. She hadn't heard of them before. I washed it to make sure it would be okay after a wash and it came out like new.

These are very easy and fast to make with a slotted guide ruler and a rotary cutter. I'll have to get cracking with some for our birds.

It's a craft ring from Joann's. I think it's used for macrame. I checked it for a zinc coating and it didn't have any. I dipped it in muriatic acid for a while and it never fizzed. I dipped some links that I bought in the acid and it fizzed up very fast because of the zinc coating. They got real dull too. In any case it would be very very difficult for my little birds to ever touch the metal. I packed it very tight with fabric.

I'm going to buy some metal rings from an online bird store to see what they're like. They're cheaper too. I just hope they're as thick and sturdy. I can't remember the bird store's name right now.

qtbird - do you have directions for making these? I've never seen one before and wonder what material you use and how exactly you manage to put so much material on that ring. Thanks....

Oddly enough I do have instructions that I intended to post very soon. I have had so many crazy situations happen in the last couple of weeks that I haven't had time. I even had a bunch of trojans on my computer too. My husband got the computer up and running then it went down again and the whole cycle repeated. I have barely been able to get online.

The material is non pill polar fleece. The ring is a metal craft ring from Joann's, but I'm sure they're available in other places.
