I think I'm getting a cold. I was just wondering if my bird can catch it from me. Virgil's my first bird. I don't want to make the lil guy sick for sure. Since I've been feeling it coming on today I've kept Virgil in his cage. I just hate to keep the lil guy in there if it's unnecessary.

No. There are several infections that can be passed from human to bird and bird to human but the common cold is not one of them.

Chlamydia can be transferred back and forth and Avian TB (Mycobacterium Avian) can be passed from an infected bird to an imniosupressed human but not colds.

Make sure you wash your hands before handling your bird or any food prep. for him. I always sneeze or cough into a tissue and then wash my hands when I am around Bodie. I just keep his routine the same -he's out when I am home. The only reason I would keep him in my cage is only if I am too sick to stay up and need to go lay down other wise there is no rest for me according to Bodie!

Thanks for the advice :) I do have a terrible cold. I'll be sure to keep my hands washed and keep Virgil away from my face.

I don't have anything to add except that I hope you feel better soon. Colds are no fun :(
