So I made an appointment for tomorrow morning with a local avian vet to have my little Bean checked over. She's fine - healthy and feisty as ever - but I wanted to get her beak checked out. I've had her for about 2 years (she's 9) and since I've had her I've always thought that her beak looked unusual. The lower part of her beak looks much larger than other parrotlets so I thought I would bring her in to be checked and possibly have it trimmed. I'm nervous! They're so little - I hope the visit isn't too stressful for her. I know I'm doing the right thing but I am so worried that she'll be stressed and not do well. Have your birds always done fine with vet visits? I

I think you're making a great choice to ensure that your sweet birdie is all right. Certainly, vet visits can be stressful, but not terribly so (in our experience), especially if your avian vet is good with birds (I would certainly hope that most are!!) Once you're in the exam room, your bird will probably settle in a little. Ours travels well, too, so the trip there is never bad.
Even if it is stressful, imagine the benefit to your sweet friend if her beak realy does need some attention. She will feel SO much better!
Well done for listening to your instincts, and very best of luck to you! I'm sure it will be just fine :)

Pickle has always been quite happy to go to the vats actually, he likes the car ride, and the excitement of crossing the road lol
hes not to keen when the vet has to grab him to get a look, but hell happily sit and chew something while the vets prodding and poking at him

Bodie does ok on his vet visits. I have to travel 40-45 min both ways so I take a supply of water, veggies and nuts for his to snack on both ways. When they draw blood he may a bit ruffled for a bit but by the time I get him back into the care and show him a pistachio he is ok.
It is important to take them to the vet for all checks up. I think they are tougher then we give them credit for.:)

Im sure she'll do fine. I always put a piece of millet in the carrier when I take my birds to the vet, so they can associate something fun and yummy with the experience. Good luck and let us know what happens!

Bean did great today! I was impressed with the vet - she seemed really thorough and gentle and definitely knew a lot! She said that Bean is in pretty good shape. She did trim a bit from the lower part of her beak and it looks much better now. I'm glad I went! Bean handled it quite well too - I was surprised. I had put some millet in her travel cage for a snack and she started nibbling it almost immediately after her exam. Thanks for the moral support!

Glad everything went well. Our little pets usually tolerate visits to the vet better than we do!

Ya you go Bean. Love the name. Did the vet weigh him?

Darcy really likes his vet. I think its more stressful for the human than the bird!
