Sam used to make a squeaky noise he learned whenever he wanted attention. It was the funniest thing. You'd hear him making the noise, then when you'd walk into the room he'd go so excited! :D For the most part though, he was fairly quiet bird.

My toby used to "chatter" when he wants attention. ( I say used to because he rarely wants our attention now that he has a female :() Wistles, a few words he knows & misc. gobbledegook. He stops if you go up to the cage, but if you talk back from across the room he pauses to listen then goes back to it. This chatter was the first of his actuall talking. It just took awhile for him to learn to pronunciate!

Dave? when I read this reply about Sam I noticed words like "used to" and I just wondered about little Sam.
