Hi, everyone. I'm a new parrotlet owner, and just got my babies 10 days ago. I'm assuming they were hatched around the 1st of May, just because of how long the store had had them in and because I've read online that they usually wean at around 5 weeks old. My two were parent raised, and before I got them had their wings hacked. They're both quite nervous around me still(I can get him to step up after he's flown from his cage, I have to convince her to.) so I don't want to try to harass them into letting me see how many of their flights were cut off, but neither of them can keep any height. When they take off from their cage, they'll sink rapidly =/ They can both make it around 2-4 feet away from the cage before they hit the floor, but they definitely don't seem to be able to go in much more than a straight line yet.

I was just wondering, out of your experience, do the flight feathers start to moult out at the 4 month mark when they hit their first moult, or do they take longer to lose the flight feathers than that?

Thanks!

Actually it is good they were trimmed before you got them. You will be able to get them used to you instead of chasing them around the house.
Not sure but it may take a couple of moultings before the new flight feathers come in.
Just depends on the birds. As new feathers come in they will be able to fly low and get experience avoiding things such as windows.

Even if I did keep them clipped after they get used to me, I just don't like how far their wings were cut back. From all I've ever read, if you keep wings clipped they should not be able to gain altitude, but should be able to glide. They can't even do that =/

Hm, I'd seen that their first moult is around 4 months old, if they don't lose their clipped flights then, when is their second usually?
