We made a playgym for our fids. Used birch, didn't know about the bark issues until after construction - so we hadn't peeled it. However, our fids are too interested in the toys and haven't touched the bark. The branches are large for Boo our splaylegged hen who is fully flighted (really helps her get around). I did score the branches so that climbing the bark is easier. Used non-zinc bolts, brass eyelet hooks, and washers from Menards. Natural sisal rope and the rest from Michaels. The base is a plastic plant pot platter.
Tools: selected drill bits, drill, and scissors. Many of the toys on here are homemade to fit the size too and help Boo with navigation. They love it!
Cost $40 (I shopped the sales).

That is so cool. There is something nicer about it when it's homemade. I like that you made sure that all the materials used are safe. Really glad your little guys love it. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of them playing on it soon.

Do you like it? Is it easy to clean? What do your parrotlets think of it?

I love the play gym you made. Very well thought out and really great idea. We want to make something for the top of Twinkies cage this would be great and then to have something lower like a hamster wheel or someting like it on the sides. Very cute. YOu did a great job!
