I am wondering if I get a female friend for my parrotlet is it likely he will be friendly with her? I have a separate cage for the new parrotlet and all but I would like for them to become friends and maybe breed if they choose.

I looked on a lot of websites on advice but did not see any.

Midori has lived in his cage for about a year & a half. When I purchased him he had a female friend.

Thanks a lot!

Well, parrotlets are generally aggressive birds and may not get along with other birds. They may or may not bond, you have to be prepared to house them separately forever if need be. I thought the same originally for Jinx and got her a "boyfriend"... wrong move, she hated him with a passion to the point where she actually would chase him out of his cage and then out of the room and then come flying back happy.

Now on the other hand, when I got Noodle, i felt he was unhappy and would benefit from companionship. Jinx didn't tolerate him, but at least wouldn't chase him out of the room. Boyd the tiel was too passive for him and he would scare her. So I ended up with another parrotlet (Indi) who I was prepared to house in a separate cage forever if need be. Thank goodness, they ended up loving each other at first site! So now they're bonded and living together really well for the past 6 months or so;)

really just depends on the birds- they all have likes and dislikes just like people and sometimes the chemistry just isn't there.......just be careful- you should know you re supposed to quarantine the new one for about 30 days?

As others have suggested, it is almost impossible to know ahead of time whether they will take to each other. Are you thinking about getting a baby or an adult? Basically, you need to be prepared to house them and play with them separately FOREVER in the event that they don't get along - if they do, it's just a bonus! Also, they may develop a friendship that never turns into courtship. If you're thinking of breeding you may want to consider getting a pair that has already been proven for someone else.
