I just read that getting your female parrotlet a "happy hut" type of place to sleep at night can result in her getting territorial. Anyone have any experience with this? My girl is just a baby, but I don't want to get her used to using a hut to sleep in if this can happen down the road. She is strictly a pet and will not be used for breeding, so I don't want to encourage any nesting behaviors. Thanks for any advice!

I think it's an individual thing. Mine never liked their's, they only pooped on it. I've heard of other birds who were fine with their tents and other birds that were very territorial about it. Anytime my guys were too territorial about something, I would just remove the toy.

yeah Pickles funny about huts and tents and things, we got him a tent to sleep in and he wouldnt go inside it, he just slept on top of it lol
but he really likes to sleep in this bell toy with a platform on it..i dont know why, it cant be very comfy but he wont sleep any where else
Jinx n Noodle's right, it just all depends on your bird

Well Daisy took to hers right away. This morning she was playing hard to get in there, so I just let her be. When she poked her head out I'd say "Peek a boo!" I figure eventually it will become a game.

I had better results with the Curly Q or Slinky and they loved to sleep and snuggle up in there.... The tent they used to just bite, or sit on top of... I heard too many horror stories about birds getting strangled in them or getting toes caught in loose threads.

The one daisy has is made out of wire rolled like a tube, then there is a nice print fabric that covers it. So, she actually sits on the wire and doesn't have any fabric contact to get caught in.

I had Py in a Happy Hut - he loved it and didn't seem to need to chew, nibble, or otherwise destroy it - but he went all the way into it every night, and POOPED in it to the point where I gave up - I couldn't leave it in the cage more than 2 nights without washing it...too much washing and replacing - so I got a cloth tent that I could hang from the top of the cage over a perch - that worked out much better (and cleaner) for us.

I have always used a rope ring for the two birds we had. They fluffed it up by picking at it. It was great especially in the winter. It was nice and cozy. They are washable but the poop really doesn't get on it. It falls to the cage floor.

I got the happy hut for my guy when I first got him....before I knew that much about different aspects of them and thier toys or habits.
He's fine with it though. Sleeps in it every night. Actually got mad last summer when I took it out. thought it was too hot for him. And he didn't stop yapping until I put it back in.
I vacumn it most every day. Would love to switch to covered perch, but not sure if he'd take to it at this point.

I found it a couple of years ago at a bird fair. I haven't seen one since. I used to have a parrotlet back then, but he died. I posted a couple of pics of it under the Housing section.
