I'm a mess. My sister was in the kitchen and had Kiwi right on the counter next to her. She said that when she picked her back up she was not moving. Her head was laying on my mom's hand and she was barely breathing. A few minutes later she died right in our hands. My sister is crying like crazy because Kiwi was her best friend. What could have happened. I just can't believe she's gone. I loved her! What will this do to Lily?? :(:(

I just can't stop crying!

Oh, No! :( I'm crying with you :(

I feel like Kiwi is a part of me too after reading all about him for so long.

It's scarey that they are so fragile. Suppose it could have been as simple as a fume of some sort? Was she cooking?

I'm so sorry for you. Poor Lily too :(
Sending you prayers of healing.

no she wasn't cooking... she was cleaning out a bottle of soap to be recycled. I think she might have broken her neck or something. I don't know how but her neck seemed really limp... We had just bought a new cage and a whole lot of new toys for both of them today! :( My mom is already talking about replacing her! That's the last thing she wants to hear! :(

Whatever the reason doesn't help the heartache. :(

I am certain she knows she was loved.

Was Kiwi clipped or fully flighted? Maybe they got into something. I can't even imagine loosing one of my birds, I'm so sorry that happened.

My thoughts are with you and your family.
I agree that your sister needs time before thinking about another bird

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. It's almost impossible for us to predict what's happened to her, I'm afraid. It's frightening how fragile they really are. Fly free, little one.

thank you everyone for your support, right before she passed she opened her eyes and flapped her wings before fading away :(

We are having a little funeral for her this afternoon but do you think that I should show the dead Kiwi to Lily? Or should I just let her keep calling to Kiwi but never know what has happened?

Oh, and her wings were just clipped yesterday about 5 hours before she died...

I am so so sorry for your loss. I too am crying for you and kiwi. Could she have flown into something while she was out? Was the soap strongly scented, no one had been using teflon and she had a new cage? Did you clean it with anything and rinse good? Just trying to help you find the problem so your other birdie is safe. So sorry for you and your sister. Sincere condolences...

I am sure that in an odd sort of way animals know the passing of their loved ones too. I have, in the past, allowed the siblings to have thier 'viewing'. Just as we people need closure, so do the animals. But it soley depends on the individual animal.....all in my opinion, of course.

i'm glad you are having a little servie for her. Sending prayers your way.

I saw your post last night right after you posted it. I tried to answer but my computer froze up. I'm so so sorry. Thinking about getting another bird would not only help you but you would be helping Lily as well.

thank you! We thought about something environmental but it was too quick to be that I think. She might have flown into something... The service was nice, but unfortunately it was raining. We put her in a little box with a treat, her favorite toy, a picture of us with her and a flower. We wrote her name on the outside and felt was lining the box so at least now she'll rest all comfy...

Lily really doesn't know what's going on and it makes me sad but I had a nice long chat with our breeder today about everything! I was on the phone last night with her trying to see if there was anything we could do but there wasn't and when Kiwi died she said that she started crying when we hung up. She's really nice and she says she has a white boy with light purple on his tail so in a couple of weeks we'll go by and see what she has.

Should I thoroughly scrub out Lily's cage?? I didn't even think of that!

This part is *about* to make me cry... sorry again. :(
I definitely think you should disinfect everything just in case.

Thank you very much, yes I only had her for two months but it's amazing what an impact they can have on you! Me and Lily are helping each other and I have to say, she's been much sweeter and she actually wants to come out now! I think we're making progress!
