View Full Version : baseline x-ray?
My vet suggested doing one on Bean. He's 8 and never had an x-ray. I'm afraid they would have to anesthetize him for that. Does not seem like a good idea to me. I don't really want to do that unless it was really necessary. What do you think?

Did they say what the purpose would be of that? 8 is kinda young considering the life expectancy of these little guys I would be reluctant to do one as well, hey you could always call another vets office and ask there opinion, IDK.. just seems like a lot to put such a small bird through just to get a baseline..

I have never heard of doing a baseline X-Ray, only baseline bloodwork. I would be reluctant as well.

I second that. My avian vet has never mentioned a baseline x-ray only lab work. I would vote no unless something is going on.

I've never heard of baseline x-rays either. The only time I had x-rays done was when my tiel had a wing injury that they thought was a cyst but then saw bone and took x-rays while she was under anesthesia (she had essentially a broken thumb).
Thanks everyone! I will spare the stress on Beanie. My instincts were right.

Stress is really dangerous. I wouldn't do it just for a baseline unless there was a problem.

Not only the stress but exposing him to radiation isn't a good idea for such a little body, especially if there's nothing wrong in the first place.
