Hi Ollie,
I am bad at picturing dimensions so I will let someone else address that part, but I did want to comment on the bar spacing - I don't want to rain on your parade, but 3/4" bar spacing is larger than recommended for parrotlets - you should be looking for 1/2" spacing, otherwise they can stick their little heads through but not back in, and get stuck, possibly causing injury.

uggh...I found you all of these neat cages and then I lost all that I found cause the page freaked out :(.
But check out ebay!! they have a lot of new cages that are pretty nice that dont cost a fortune. A lot of the cages from online stores are ridiculously priced.
Like this one:

is kind of like the one you were looking at but its bigger and the spacing is smaller.
But look at others too, good luck!! :)

that ones alright, a little small.
There are a lot of bigger ones for the same price or less on ebay :)

my concern is that the bars are 3/4 inches apart- everything I've read about p'lets says they should be 1/2 inches apart.......

I think the second one is pretty, and I guess as a baby cage a little smaller is better, depending on the birdy.
But definitely shop around for lower prices

The second one is okay...the only thing I don't like about the cages that are bigger on top than bottom (I used to have one of the Taj mahal like ones) is that they'll sit on top where it's bigger and then poop, then the poop will end up just outside the cage! It's bad enough that I had to clean the bottom of the cage, I did't want to have poop outside of the cage too.
But I would agree that you can probably find a much bigger cage for a similar price as the second one.

Haha Navi's baby cage was one of those taj mahal ones too, and she made a point of sitting at the top in order to poop out of the cage.

I would suggest not going with a "starter cage" at all, but saving until you can afford the one you want for them as adults. It will save you money in the long run, and there really is no need to start with a smaller cage.

I liked the last one posted the best :) As for a starter cage, depends on how long you're planning on using it. I have a couple of smaller cages that I used at first, now their more their travel cages when I have to go out of town and the birds have to go elsewhere... too hard to transport their bigger cages!

i like that this one has a bigger tray (kind of thing) around the bottom.
our cage that we have for Blue and Luca only has a slide out bit at the bottom and they make such a mess!!!
Pickles cage is more like this one in that respect, his cage keeps alot more of the mess in - although he still does a fine job of making mess.
deffinatly look on ebay, theyre so much cheaper, and you can get one that are say..technically second hand, but have never been used, or people hav ordered them and not liked them so they sell them for less than pet shops would do

Ebay is definetely a good place to look, right now I have a started cage (because I found roxy and had to get one on short notice) So right now I am looking into a larger one for her once she starts interacting with toys and becomes more playful. Craigslist is a good too you can find things in your local area and then you dont have to worry about paying for shipping.

The cages are all very small also. You have to look at spacing for sure but you need to make sure there is area to play and fly. Chipper flies around the house, but she flies and plays in her cage too. They are birds that usually have the sky to fly in so we need to make sure they have lots of room and toys.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v492/Sally11/chipper/PICT0894490.jpg

im am probably going to get some stick for this, but Pickles cage isnt huge, not one of these birdie palaces that every one else seems to have
its kind of medium size, probably a similar size to some of the ones you posted links to.
when we were trying to find a cage for Pickle we wernt sure how big it needed to be so we did some research, and alot of places said a cage 3 times the wing span of the bird would do, obviously the bigger the better for your birdy, but as long as the bird is happy thats all that matters, and the truth is, not evry one can afford a MASSIVE cage, and some people just dont have the space for them.
Pickle doesnt have many toys in his cage, we tend to rotate them quite alot instead of putting all the toys in at once, and have a few toys on the bottom of the cage as well so that he still has some good space to fly.
and Blue and Luca's cage is the same make but double the size of Pickle's, and we do the same for them, keeping some of the cage clear so they have room to fly and some hanging toys and a few in the bottom of the cage that are rotated regularily

It is amazing to me how breeders and "experts" tell us the size of the cage needed for a small bird. They are way off. They are BIRDS. They have freedom to fly miles in the wild, so I try to remember that. The man that told us the size we needed was nuts. It is a nice cage, but now it is her sleep cage. Very nice and large for a sleep cage, but not for a reg. cage, no room for tons of fun toys.
I know everyone is different, some don't have room for a flight cage, that is fine. I just wanted to remind everyone that they do usually love room to fly and play.
Here is the sleep cage, was the first cage until I learned more about cages.

She loves a good book before sleeping.

I agree with Sally. Your birdy certainly has the good life, Sally!!
When I got Kiwi, I started with the "recommended" size, a very nice 18x18 Kings cage. She was MUCH more active when I got my first HQ flight cage! I sold the Kings cage to my neighbor, for her Senegal, Doobee. Doobee is very happy in that size cage, as he's nowhere near as active as my P'lets.
So it really depends on the bird. If wing span was the only consideration, P'lets "should" be happy in a cage the size of a shoebox!
I always say, get the largest cage you have room for and can afford. Lots of fun time outside the cage, playing on a playstand or with YOU can make a smaller cage work.

ha ha Sally! My sister has that book...I read it to my 18 month nephew all the time!
I just thought that was funny :P
Ollie, I would look on ebay. I think the cage I showed you is pretty nice and there are a lot of other nice cages on there for $80 or less and free shipping.
The second one isn't to bad, I just know there are bigger/same size cages with stands on ebay for less or just a little more.
I'd keep looking until you find one you LOVE :)

That's a pretty cage and it's a good size too, so think your P'let will be just fine!
We were all just trying to help, since you asked us, but you must always use your own best judgement.

I have that cage. I used it for Indi's quarantine period. It's a good size for a p'let, I just didn't like how the bars weren't able to hold up some of the bigger perches that I had for it.
Size wise, it wasn't good enough for Indi, heck I have her in a flight cage (about 3x bigger than the one pictured) and it's still not big enough! She's only satisfied with me letting her out into the 12 x 12 room!

I got 3 beautiful cages on ebay and they are all bigger then you have posted and they didn't cost as much as the higher prices that you have..3/4 bar spacing is way too large for a Parrotlet..

We have our plet in the tear drop cage from Petco. I love it, she loves it. She has plenty of room to fly if she wants. She just climbs every where. She is flighted and we let her out almost everyday. she flies to the highest point and stays there till she's hungry then flies home and climbs some more. Don't go larger than 1/2 inch on the bars. 5/8 is too wide.

It seems good :)
Especially if you're only getting one.
And like jodeg said, we're just trying to help.
And I agree Evelyn, there are a lot of great cages on ebay. The only thing I dont like is if you pay $50 for a cage its $50 or more for shipping...lol

I have that cage, too, and use it for boarding my plet at the vet. I have a larger King's cage at home. The benefit of the smaller cage is much easier cleaning. You can take the plastic off the bottom and wash it in the sink. As long as your plet gets time outside to fly around, you should be fine.

When I bought my p'let they told me 18x18 was plenty big. I thought that was too small and went with that exact same tear drop cage. My guy has plenty of room for toys and loves to climb all over and he flies when he is out of the cage. Go for it - you might get one cheaper on e-bay but Sarah is right you probably make it up in shipping costs. Plus don't ever buy a used cage unless you know who had it. The cages even if supposedly disinfected can still carry diseases.

So I actually saw the cage you got at my local petco. It seems like a pretty good size :) pretty good for the price.
I have my eye on a 23"wide, 23" deep and 57 tall...for $127.
So I'm hoping to get that for my birdies since I'm separating them.
Have you gotten the cage yet?
Do you like it?
