What is a normal parrotlets sleeping habit? My bird hates his cage, and wants to sleep in our bed, all cuddled up; which obviously isnt safe or possible. His cage is in our room and we cover him up. The odd thing is it seems like he doesnt sleep much. He moves around a bit, and I hear him eating at like 3 or 4 in the morning. Is this normal??

My budgies are dead quiet...no movement no nothing, as soon as i cover them. So i guess a more straightforward question would be; how much do p'lets sleep? or how muh should they sleep to be healthy

does sound wierd...but i dont know what to suggest.

Pickle goes to bed about 9 ish..sometimes he has abit of a nap towards the end of evening playtime (although i know thats late, i think most people put theirs to bed at like 8 ish) he gets a cover put on him, and sometimes hell object and shout or eat for a little while after..and hes usually awake when i come down in the morning maybe about 8 ish, sometimes later. and he might have a bit of a snooze in the middle of the day.
Blue and Luca go to bed same time, same treatment..although they seem to come alive at night, they can spend all day cuddleing and preening, and at night they start playing, but theyre usually quite quiet in the morning, where as pickle is his most vocal in the morning.

My 3 are in 3 separate HQ flight cages. After a hour of SUPERVISED playtime, I cover them at 7 p.m. After a bit of chirping back and forth, all is quiet until 7:30 a.m. the next morning. I have NO IDEA how they know it's 7:30, but they start with soft little chirps at the time every day! Our bedroom is right across the hall from their room, so I'd hear them if they were making noise, but it's always quiet.

They're all so busy all day long, I imagine they're ready for bed! I try to insure they get at least 12 hours of quiet sleep time every night.

yea, i feel like it is really odd. He will sleep like a little baby if we're cuddling him, but once i put him in his cage I think he gets depressed or something. He is EXTREMELY attached to us. If he is in his cage hes either on the front perch pacing, or sitting in his food dish eating (which annoys me!, why cant he just eat like a gentleman?!) I have never seen him play with a toy inside his cage, but he will play with the all day if I hold them or set them on the couch by me... He also has a nice new big cage, but again, stays right in front...I know it can take some time to adjust, but he did the same sorts of things in the tiny cage he came in

Mine go to sleep at about 10:30 pm after I turn the lights out and go to bed myself. They have what I call a "bird bell" which is basically just an inverted yogurt container (1 liter size) with a wooden perch fastened inside about 1" up from the bottom. I covered it in a black sock so they have something to hold onto when they climb into it.

As soon as I turn out the lights they scramble into their "bird bell" and go to sleep for the night.

You can see the bird bell in the background of this video (it's the black thing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jYfROKfn3k

Maybe your bird just needs something to sleep in.... Oh yeah, the "bird bell" has holes cut in the side so they can get in...

I have him one of the little tent things which he goes into when he is scared (when i run the vaccuum for instance)....I've only had him two weeks tomorrow, and just put him in a big cage two days ago....perhaps hes still adjusting....he is still really active, and eats plenty, so it must not be affecting him (although he wakes me up every night)....maybe he just gets hungry:Deveryone loves a late night snack!

I would agree that it sounds weird. Mine go to sleep when put in bed, but jinx is up and going the first thing she thinks people are moving around. I don't have them in the bedroom with me, but they sleep up until they hear me move around downstairs. If your p'let likes to cuddle, maybe a birdie buddy for him to cuddle next to. I got it for Jinx and she used to cuddle next to before bed, now she doesn't care for it and sleeps on top of it :)

It is not abnormal for a parrotlet to snack in the middle of the night.

I take my food dishes out when they go to bed so that they are more eager to eat viggies and good stuff in the morning.

Is that one of those little fuzzy things that ties on the side of the cage???I have him one of those....but like jinx, he usually just climbs on top of it...He just reminds me of a little kid....He really dislikes bein alone....Luckily myself or my girlfriend are home mostly all day so he gets alot of attention...but he gets so sad when we put him to bed:(

I must have the weirdest birds around!!
I have 2 pairs in 2 cages across the room from each other, and they chatter to each other all day long. When the lights go out and the curtains drawn, they sleep until I open the curtains in the morning, whether I'm moving around or not!! They live in the same room as the dogs and I keep the radio/TV on 24/7 for the dogs and it's usually the dogs who stir first - but the birds don't kick off until the curtains are open:confused::confused::confused:
Not that I'm complaining, but as these are the first birds I have ever had, I assumed that they all did the same:o

Thats how my budgies are! I could be in the living room (where they stay) talking loudly and they would snooze away....but as soon as I pull their cover off, they are UP!....thats why I was so confused about yoshi eating and moving around in the middle of the night

My Kiwi would put himself to bed around 8:00 every night even if we were still in the family room, where is cage was (and still is-all ready for our next parrotlet), with all the lights and t.v. set on! He had a rope ring that he had preened and picked at so that it was all fluffed out- so nice and cozy in the back corner of his cage. When I went to bed I'd say night night Kiwi and cover his cage with a long black cage cape. He would poke his head out eyeing me. I made the black cape to cover the cage easily and my children called it the "bird's body bag"-teenager humor! Rarely I would find him sleeping on the rope bungee when I came out to make breakfast. I can't wait to get another P'let!:p
