If traveling by car I take and any cage that a seat belt can fit around. That way I can still use the cage while I am visiting. They can go in a smaller cage for a while as long as they have a perch and some toys.

I just bought a regular cage that can fit in the car and use a seat belt, for Noel, I found nice travel cages for the Cockatiels, but the cage I bought for Noel (P'let) is acutally for hamsters, but I liked the shape and I have perches and feedcups that screw on,of course I took the hamster stuff out, it is well big enough for her to travel and stay in for a week or two..I just make sure when we are on the road I don't put any toys that sway so they don't get hit with them, I put them in after we get to where we are going..Oh and the hamster cages don't cost as much..

I use a smaller cage that fits on the carseat :) Otherwise, for the ones that don't do so well in a cage (I have one that freaks out because she can see out the window of the car and things are moving too fast for her), I either cover the top and sides of the cage, but most of the time I just put her in a regular cat carrier (with the hard sides and the wire front) that I've drilled a hole through so that I can screw on a perch for her.
