Hi

Just a bit of advice needed really...............

I have recently acquired a parrotlet, I have a large outdoor aviary and wanted some advice on whether or not a Parrotlet would be comfortable living outdoors?

I live in South Wales, UK so temperatures are not high, the aviary is in a sheltered location.

please reply as any help would be appreciated.

Parrotlets are very social creatures, and if you are talking about a single bird, I think it wouldn't be the best to keep the bird by itself, outside. I would not keep a tropical bird outdoors in those winter temperatures personally. We have kept parrots outdoors on a covered terrace here in Mexico, but we are in the tropics, and it never gets even close to freezing. I would recommend keeping the bird in the house, and using the aviary during pleasant weather as a daytime outing. Of course, you'd need to take an unclipped bird outdoors in a small cage to avoid an accidental fly-away.

I agree with the above posts. If you only have the one, you really become their buddy and they need you for love, comfort and companionship. It's one of the things I love most about Tinkerbell, I'm her pal.

So far as keeping them outside, I take my little girl for walks in her birdie-backpack (not when it's really cold of course ;)), but other than that, she's an indoor gal. In the winter I move her into the office so she doesn't freeze her little beak off in the icy living room.

Just some thoughts! ^^
