Good Morning!!

I was given a pair of Bonded Parrotlets a few days ago. The female is green and the male is blue. The woman I got them from told me that they are a little over a year old and that they had been laying eggs over the last few months but she was throwing them away. They are in a small parakeet cage. :( I am hoping to get a new cage this weekend. The one I am looking at is 24 X 18 X 33! My question is this. They have laid two eggs on the bottom of the cage over the last 3 days. I know for sure that I have a male and a female. The cage that they are in now isnt big enough to put a nest box in. We are expecting a major snow/ice storm here in the next few hours (I live in Tennessee) and my kids are home sick with a stomach virus so the chances of me going today to pick up the new cage is VERY slim. Is their any hope of her sitting on these eggs on the bottom of the cage? She has not started to lay on them yet which I am not real concerned with at this moment. Can anyone offer advice in what I should do? I would really like the eggs to hatch, if the are fertile and have the babies. I am fully prepared to hand feed the babies as I have done it numerous times in the past. Thank You in advance. :o

I'm not a breeder, but guessing that she may or may not sit the eggs. I would leave them there in any case because taking them away only encourages more egg-laying which can be hard on the hen's body.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I know nothing about breeding but there is a lot of nice people here to help and a lot of useful informations here.
Congratulations on your new additions. We would love to see pictures.
I live right on the KY/TN border so i'm right there with you for the snow storm. I was supposed to get my blue baby girl this weekend but we have put it off until Tuesday or Wednesday. My breeder lives on the south side of Tennessee.
Stay safe and warm.

I would attach the nest box on the outside of the small cage you have. I always attach the nest boxes outside of the cages no mater how large the cage is. It is much easier to check the inside of the box when it is outside of the cage. Just clip the 2-3 wires on the side of the cage in order the entrance of the nest box is accessible for the birds to the nest box. make sure you have some pine or other shavings(not cedar please) in the box and press down the shavings and place the eggs in the box.

Sorry for the mistakes I made above. I got confused with mom's. I was answering to the mom2twins.
This is what happens when you are over 80.
I hope Reta can remove the unnecessary entry. Hi Reta, Hi birdma.

Reta, thank you for correcting the mistake.

My pair has yet to lay any eggs so am not one to advise but wondering if the eggs were put in a small dish on the bottom of the cage or little box with some nesting matterial if she might not go ahead with laying and sitting on them. If you don't have nesting material handy try some oatmeal just to cushion the eggs.
