How is doing in USA about the H1N1 in the birds?

I know a person that I sold one of my blue parrotlets, she is a vet and 2 of her birds got H1N1 , one of her birds died (handfeeded) and the blue mutation survived.

It's the swine flu... though I've heard that in the US turkeys have gotten it... not sure about pet birds.

My grandson got he swine flu the week before Christmas. My sister called and said she had saw a news report that said birds could catch it. I looked around the net but never could confirm it. I kept him far away from Beemer. Better to be safe than sorry. I would be interested to hear if anyone knows.

I believe that the H1N1 has some of the avian flu in it so it makes sense our pet birds can get it. Always good when we are sick to really use common sense and wash wash wash our hands and stuff. And of course don't sneeze or cough around our birds.

That's what I heard, Bodie, at a presentation given by the Infection Control physician at our hospital - H1N1 has a "part" of an avian influenza within it...I guess we need to be careful...I did get immunized for it, but that was recommended because I am a health care worker.
