Hey guys, So I finally found a breeder and a green female. She arrived yesterday and has been showing some scary signs.

I read all I could on this forum before posting, but I thought I would just post anyway. I am planning to take her to a vet tomorrow.

This morning she was looking very stressed and was breathing very heavily. Her tail bobs very visibly when she is at rest. She isn't too puffed up, and has been eating and drinking fine. She also has been very active off and on, chirping happily and playing, but when she goes back to rest she still breaths heavily.

The breeder told me to purchase a light for the side of her cage for warmth, which she LOVES and has been napping under it since I put it there.

Ok so here is the question, I know the vet may be able to tell me to but I wanted to ask people who have owned/bred these guys. I read that by the time a birds breathing is hard enough to be noticeable with tail bobbing that it has been sick for some time. If this is the case then the breeder sent me a sick bird. What should I do? (Heaven forbid) If she dies should I get a replacement bird or just my money back?

My male (who is quarantined on the other side of the house) has never once shown this behavior. Maybe she will be fine and is just stressed (which is what the breeder said) but in the past this forum has been a great help. So any advice would be great.

I went on the site and searched for breath and then health, there is a lot of information out there on this. You may want to check this out.

I never notice much tail bobbing when mine are breathing unless they're stressed out. Hopefully, the vet visit will tell you more.

You mention the breeder may have 'SENT' you a sick bird. Exactly how was the bird 'sent'? Perhaps the travel to get to you took a toll on the baby?

I would think if she were having problems breathing it would be all the time and she would not want to play, chirp, eat and the like.
But I am not a vet, by any means. Sure hope he can shed some better light on the situations for you.

Keep us posted.

Update: Well the breeder was very helpful and she seems ok now. She is super hyper and chirpy. She starts the tail bobbing when we approach her or try to handle her. I think she is just nervous. Thanks for the info.
